What happens to bookmarks when upgrading from Opera 12.x to the new Opera?

Do they all just disappear? Or, do they get moved into the new Stash feature?
Is Stash supposed to replace Bookmarks or is it intended to be used in a different way than Bookmarks? I've seen the Stash screen with only one website saved to it and it displays as a small view of the website, not simply a text link to the site like a bookmark. So, I have the impression that Stash obviously is not intended to store a large number, perhaps hundreds, of websites like Bookmarks. Is my perception of this correct?

Currently there is no full-fledged bookmark manager similar to what was available in v.12 and before. If you go into Settings in Opera 20 you can enable the Quick Address Bar (bookmark bar) and then use the import feature to transfer your bookmarks over. If you have many bookmarks, it's best to set up folders on the bar and nest your bookmarks inside each folder. It works well enough. The Stash feature is not really meant to be a bookmark bar of a permanent nature... more of a "read it later" feature. You can also use the Speed Dial to bookmark those sites you frequent on a daily basis and you can set up folders there as well.

Usually ... nothing. The file is recognized and the Bookmarks Importer enabled, if you want to move any to the new speed dial folders. Or you can go I into opera:flags and enable the Quick Access bar ... after restarting Opera the Bookmarks Importer will allow you to import folders to the QAB as well.

Hi Steve. I don't think it's necessary to enable the QAB via Opera:flags anymore. It's now available through the Settings.

Is there any way to sort bookmarks alphabetically in folders in the quick address bar? Mine are a real mess right now.
EDIT - Found a solution by playing around. Right click on the folder name and click "Sort alphabetically" to get this done.
