At one time, the download screen allowed a compressed list showing about 10-12 items with a delete button on each. Now I get 3 items filling the screen, and to delete items I have to press the "..." button and choose delete.
Is there any way I can go back to the old (good) version, or am I going to have to replace Opera with an older version?

To keep to current version of the downloads page you need to use an older build of Opera and disable autoupdate.

@leocg Thanks, I appreciate that, but I had hoped to use the current version and either replace the appropriate module or find some switches which would allow me to do it.

There's no way to change it as far as I know.
