Clicking on email link gets Windows security warning

I have Windows 7. Suddenly, every time I click on a link in an email in Thunderbird, instead of it opening in Opera as it formerly did, I now get the Windows security warning that Opera wants to make changes to the computer. I cannot access the link unless I agree. I haven't made any changes to Opera or Thunderbird. Any ideas?

Is Opera still your default browser on that system?
If you open Opera directly from its icon, does it start up normally, and what version is it?
When you open Opera directly, how many tabs does it open initially? -

In Opera, goto the URL
opera://settings/onStartup
and turn off "Ask me when Opera is started by a shortcut specifying an URL" to see if it helps.
