Mysterious Uploads of Several GBs through Opera

For several weeks, I have noticed mysterious uploads commencing daily and sometimes uploading several gigabytes of data to several web addresses all have the address ..adnxs.com

I have tried placing the following in Windows hosts file:
127.0.0.1 ib.anycast.adnxs.com
127.0.0.1 adnxs.com
127.0.0.1 fra1-ib.adnxs.com

but this strange behaviour continues. It only happens through Opera and I am wondering why Opera allows this to happen. I can't seem to block this site from accessing my computer and uploading seemingly without any action from me huge amounts of data. I know this is not an infection, so I am wondering what I can do to block this from happening.

How did you find out that it comes from Opera? And what about those addresses?

Try killing your browser extensions and see if the uploading stops. If it does, work through the extensions one at a time to figure out which one is causing it.

Other possibilities include a background page running in a speed dial or tab that has a website-code callout to the adnxs server, or an adware infection in your Opera installation. Fortunately (somewhat), adnxs is a major 'legitimate' ad server and not inherently malware of itself.

Most likely the website-code callout you mention. Probably also on one of my fav blogs. Needed to close that one tab and everything was good... I have been able to replicate the problem since so I am fairly certain now.
