Interrupted : Insufficient Permissions - unable to download links in e-mail or websites

Please can somebody tell me why I am no longer able to download links, either from within e-mail (I use the Outlook app) or websites. The reason given in the downloads list is 'Interrupted: Insufficient Permissions.'. I've looked through all my Opera settings and can't find anything which could be causing this. This issue only started a few month ago, all was fine until then.

There's another thread on this issue at https://forums.opera.com/topic/26984/interrupted-insufficient-permissions-unable-to-download-email-attachments-in-gmail-opened-in-opera.
It's a Mac-only issue and no one has found the cause yet.

Thanks. I have been following that, and have commented, but was told that I was in the wrong place because I wasn't using Gmail!

Did you try changing your download folder setting in Opera? Goto the URL
opera://settings/downloads
and change it to somewhere like a folder on your desktop or a folder somewhere in your home directory. Also, as avl said in the other thread, open up a terminal, type:
open /Applications/Opera.app --args --user-data-dir=$HOME/.opera-throwaway
and press enter. When you do that, Opera will open up with a fresh profile to test with (it won't interfere with your normal Opera profile). When that instance of Opera loads, log into Outlook and try to download some attachments. Does it work then?
Another thing you could try is to create a new user account on your computer to test with. Log into it, launch Opera and try to download attachments in it. Any difference there?

@marionc I think the mod just thought you were talking about something else when you said you didn't use Gmail. Your description here makes it sound like it's the same issue.

@burnout426 said in Interrupted : Insufficient Permissions - unable to download links in e-mail or websites:
open /Applications/Opera.app --args --user-data-dir=$HOME/.opera-throwaway
Nothing happens when I do this.

@burnout426 OK, so it works OK in another user account. Thanks for that. I'm glad we've narrowed it down, but what could it be in my user profile that's causing the problem, and how do I solve it?

@burnout426 OK, I've solved the problem!!! It was Bitdefender which had blocked Opera accessing my protected files in the 'Safe Files' folder. I've unblocked it and all is working. I don't know why BD would block it, and hope it doesn't cause any security issues.

@marionc This is Bitdefender's way of protecting against some ransomware, I think. If they can't modify the files they can't encrypt them.
