@genug Just doing a regular installation of Opera in a different drive would change only the installation place - where the executable files are - but not the place for profile and cache, that would remains in %appdata%, following the Windows policy.

@leocg 😟 So my Opera cache is still on the SSD C :? And there is absolutely no way I can manage to have Opera--the whole of it--on some D : hard drive?

@genug Nope, because you did a portable installation if I understood correctly. You can check in Menu > About Opera.

[Sorry I didn't read your answer before, that's because I failed to set my profile so as to be informed when someone takes part in the topic.]
I don't think it did a portable installation. I've installed Opera before and I always follow the standard procedure.
Here is what I get from About Opera:

            Installation : D:_Programmes persos\Opera
            Profil : C:\Users\ALAIN\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable
            Cache : C:\Users\ALAIN\AppData\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable

Does this point to a portable installation?

@genug Nope, as you can see. In a portable installation, Opera should put the profile and cache folders in the same place as of the installation folder.

Download the portable installer and install it.

                Thank you.
I just downloaded, but before I go further do you think there is any chance I could keep my cache and favorites which they are on C : right now and then copy them to the new directories once the portable Opera is on D : -- and in case I can, can you please tell me where the cache and favorites directories actually are on C :?
If not, do you think Windows 10 can run two versions of Opera, one on C : and one on D :? I mean, that would buy me some time allowing me to reconstruct my favorites by opening the pages on the D : version and saving them there (tedious as it seems, it may be faster than importing the old Favorites if they come all mixed up).
                Thanks in advance!

@genug Just copy your current profile folder and paste it into the new one that will be created. The same for the cache.

@genug As said, you can see the location of the profile folder in Menu > About Opera.

                    Usually they are in %appdata%

@genug You can install two Operas on two different drives but they will share the same profile folder, unless one is a portable installation or from a different channel (beta, developer)

I did it, and I guess it worked.
There were a few discrepencies between the two directories though:
                          C : version:
                          Profil : C:\Users\ALAIN\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable
                          Cache : C:\Users\ALAIN\AppData\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable
                          portable, D : version:
                          Profil : D:_Programmes persos\Opera Portable\profile\data
                          Cache : D:_Programmes persos\Opera Portable\profile\data

Though that was checked, the portable version did not import the favorites from the C : vcersion

C : had a Certificate Revocation Info directory when D : had a CertificateRevocation directory, and C : had a Media Cache directory which wasn't in the D : directory

Anyway now I guess I'll just unsinstall the C : version (which is the only one listed in the Configuration Panel).
I am very glad you bothered to help me along on this. I'd think there should be some thread somewhere (unless there's one already?) explaining how to move your current Opera to another drive, the way you kindly explained for me just hereabove.

                          Thanks again!

Now I have this problem: Opera no longer is my default browser. Of course I associated .html files with Opera, but it is not listed in the default applications list (because of the portable version I suppose?) when I click "Choose a default application".
All the help I could find on the internet obviously refers to older versions (there is no "Options" menu anymore).
Can you please show me how to have my portable Opera (installed on D 🙂 as my favorite browser?
                            Thanks in advance (again).

Setting a standalone/portable installation is not supported in the installer UI. However, there are command-line arguments to do it. See my old post.

                              windows key + r
                              cmd
                              enter
cd "path to your download folder"
                              enter

                              OperaSetup.exe --silent "--installfolder=F:\Softwares\Opera" --pintotaskbar=1 --singleprofile=1 --setdefaultbrowser=1 --launchbrowser=1

Download the latest x64 (or non-x64 if you have 32-bit windows) offline, latest, stable installer on the right side of https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/ for good measure. Change install folder path to your existing Opera portable.

                                Hello, burnout426.
Thanks for your help. Before I get to it, may I ask:

                                1. do you mean I have to first download a stable x64 Opera and then use the command line?
                                2. in the said command line, I suppose F : must be replaced by another drive letter, but which one should that be? The one where my portable Opera is (i.e. D :)?
                                3. why should I THEN download a stable version, when what I was trying to do is install all of Opera's files and directories on D : (therefore the portable version)? As far as I can remember the installation of a stable version doesn't allow you to change the destination directory (or does it?). What do you mean by "for good measure"?
                                  Kindly bear with me . . . 😟

@genug Even if you install Opera on a different drive, the data folders (profile and cache) will be in C: or wherever %appdata% is located.
You should be able to run Opera with some command lines to change the location of cache and profile.
You can also try moving the location of %appdata% so all your programs data will be stored in a drive other than C:
Or you can just let it go and use C: normally.

                                    It seems I managed otherwise:
                                    Installation : D:_Programmes persos\Opera Portable
                                    Profil : D:_Programmes persos\Opera Portable\profile\data
                                    Cache : D:_Programmes persos\Opera Portable\profile\data
                                    unless I'm mistaken of course.

                                          Yes.

Yes, replace the whole path with path to your portable Opera on D. Basically you're just going to upgrade your portable install with the portable install option to the save version. The only difference is that it should be made available as a default browser then.

All the installers support installing a portable version. It's called the "Standalone installation" option. Opera just provides a installer called a portable installer that chooses the standalone installation by default.

I don't know for sure if the portable installer supports the command-line options like the rest of the installers do. It should, but since I don't know, I mentioned to just download the full, offline installer, which I know does support them.

...didn't work. I did it all, and when I went ENTER the command line returned no error code, but when I checked Opera still was not among the listed browser from which to choose the default browser.
Opera still works fine from D :, but I can't make it my default browser.
                                            I guess I'll have to go back to installing on C: . . .
