Can we expect a true portable version of Opera? A version with (at least) no disk cache, and saving passwords locally. That will make ideal to use flawless within a USB Drive, or even to survive a Windows reinstall without any problem.

@leocg This version has no difference of the standalone option for regular install of opera. It has disk cache and the saved passwords are tied with a particular pc

@afaustini I don't see any problem in a portable version using disk cache. Regarding the passwords, Chromium would need to change its behavior.

I think I remember someone posting about Opera still putting some cache files on the system drive (in "AppData\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable\cache" and or "media cache") when --disk-cache-dir= was set to another drive. But, I think that was with a regular install of Opera. With a standalone installation of Opera, you wouldn't use that option and all the cache should be stored in the "profile\data\cache" folder in the installation folder.

@afaustini, could you go into detail about what files are leaking from the "profile/data'cache" folder in the installation and where they're being saved?

Are you talking about cache/site settings for Flash?

As for the passwords, not sure what to do about that. Maybe disable saving of passwords in the settings and then use the LastPass extension.

There isnt any files leaking from the cache folder. But i want a way to not write any cache files at all. @leocg There isn't a way to use a different encryption scheme than the Chromium one?

                    Ah, I see.

                    From https://superuser.com/questions/334793/how-to-disable-browser-cache-in-chrome#comment1851090_516582.

                    Create shortcut to launcher.exe with:

                    "path_to_launcher.exe" "--disk-cache-dir=nul" "--media-cache-dir=nul" "--disk-cache-size=1" "--media-cache-size=1"

Or, set the 2 directories to a non-existent drive like z:\

Then, use the shortcut to launch Opera.

Oh, yes! I have the same matter. Firefox as well is true portable. Also the Passwords migrate with the USB Key and not remain nothing else in the PC. In my point of view, Google and Opera strategies to save the password in the PC is almost dangerous and leak of security. In the PC is hacked also the browser is hacked. Otherwise with the master password (Firefox) i can protect very personal data.

I Hope that Opera give us a Choice to use a password strategy. For most users thats belong to guided choice. For me is use or not use Opera. My Wish is to select.
