New Opera User. VPN questions?

Hi,
Just started using Opera and I'm very impressed at its speed.
I just noticed that there is a VPN setting.
I am usually quite wary about getting something for nothing, how could it be free?
And is it private? Does it log data? (i.e. my email and email password)
Does it log anything?

Opera has other sources of revenue. Also they already had the infrastructure, so implementing it probably wasn't that costly.
