Re: Add Ecosia search as default - not extension!!

Please, give the user the ability to make self added search engines as default! I am already thinking of switching to a different browser becuase this has high priority to me...

Hi. I'd like to request this too. I used to have Ecosia as my default search engine on my Speed Dial, but it no longer seems to be supported. I contacted Ecosia about it, and they said that, while they are doing their best to bring back the functionality for Opera, they need support from Opera to make this possible again. It would be great if Opera could work with them to bring this great feature back.

I'd personally accept it as an extension, but some sort of option to change the search engine that appears on the speed dial, which includes Ecosia, would be really helpful.

@mixterash The Google search bar in Speed Dial cannot be changed because Opera had made an agreement with Google to put it there, to get funds. You can hide the Google search bar though, with a little trick. You can use the "Konami cheat code" by going to the settings page, click on an empty spot and press with your arrow keys (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right and then the "b" and "a" keys. This leads you to power user mode which gives you additional options in the settings menu. You can then go to the "Browser" section in the settings menu and scroll down to the "Start page" undersection where you can checkmark the "Hide search box" option.

@teemooverlord thanks for an answer. Is there also a power user option to add Ecosia to the standard search engines? I personally don't care that it says "google" in Speed Dial but I'd like to always be redirected to ecosia whenever I type some words in the address bar.

The Opera project is financed, among other things, by the standard search engine

@silas229 Except, maybe, for Edge/IE and Chrome, almost all browsers get their revenues from searches and from pre-added bookmarks/speed dials.
