Hi all wonder if anyone else had this. I have the vpn on, used a proxy server, downloaded something from p***bay proxy and yet received one of the get it right emails from BT. How did BT know it came from my computer.

I dont download a lot but was surprised by this email

Opera's VPN works only in Opera so it doesn't hide your IP address when you download a torrent.

Really, when im on a torrent site it places my location say in new york. What's the point then is operas vpn if it doesnt hide your location

It should hide your IP from the sites, although there may be ways for sites to know your real IP.
Did you download only the torrent file without downloading its content using a torrent client?

actually if the site gets your actual ip then even if the vpn is enabled it's not working properly. i've seen this a few times with both browsec and opera's builtin vpn. i suggest before download anything check you ip through google.

@captlorca So that torrent client was probably the one that revealed your IP address.

make sure you require encryption in your bt client at all times.
