      Hi.

Im currently using Opera portable. I have noticed that surfing the web is really slow. Loading websites is taking noticeable long.

      However:
If im surfing in an private window, browsing the web is way better since the long loading times are gone and using opera is fast and fluid (for an portable browser).

      My Question is:
What can i do to get the same browsing experience of the "private mode" in the "normal mode"? My quess would be that it is the caching of websites which takes the time/ressources, since the browser seems to not cache websites in private mode. Is there a way to disable the cache entirely? Or is the problem somewhere else?

Problems in a normal window usually means issues with a extension and/or with a broken profile folder.
It also can be a security software scanning the files.

Don't know a command to disable cache but you should be able to use --disk-cache-size and set it to zero.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I dont think the problem comes from an extension since i only have one (ublock) installed and this extension is also running in private windows that, as i mentioned, are running well.

Maybe it is a broken profile folder. If so, the follow up question would be: How do i fix a broken profile folder?

Setting the disk cache size to zero is something i would like to try.
          Just to be clear:
I would create a shortcut of "launcher.exe", right click on the shortcut and under "Target" it should read:
          ...\launcher.exe" --disk-cache-size
(With quotation marks and the double line between "....exe" and "disk..." ?)

@snowtear You rename it so Opera will create a new one.

@snowtear said in Slow loading times on Opera Portable:

              --disk-cache-size

              --disk-cache-size VALUEHERE

              VALUEHERE = bytes

so for example 20000000 bytes = 20 MB

                So, i tried:
                ...\launcher.exe" --disk-cache-size 0
                and
                ...\launcher.exe" --disk-cache-size=0

but opera is still writing to:
                ...\profile\data\Cache

what am i doing wrong here?

@snowtear Maybe nothing, there is a chance that the command just doesn't work.

What type of drive is the portable installation on?

                      All flags listed:
                      https://peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/

^ Bear in mind that some of them brake Opera (and Chrome) - such as for example "--one-process" etc.

Too bad the command to set the cache to zero doesnt work... but thanks anyway.

what about the problem, with a potential profile folder, that was mentioned earlier in this thread? how can i check if it is broken and if so, how i can fix it?

                        @burnout426:
The application is on an usb thumb drive. therefore i dont expect an ultra fast browsing experience. it would be sufficient if it would run as smooth as within private windows.

Try removing everything from the drive and then putting everything back. When everything's off the drive, you can reformat it as NTFS (to rule out file system corruption or to convert it to NTFS if it was FAT32). I do that some times with thumb drives and it helps for a while.

I'm guessing that private mode is only faster because it's not using the disk as much.
