"Open With" doesn't work for associated files

Since Opera 24(?) ages ago, Opera used the normal file associations of the OS.

Now, even though the file extension (normal .readme file in text format), I have to download it, go to Downloads, and double-click it to open in it Opera.

Do file assocations work in the latest Opera? Is there some setting that prevents the normal opening of say, .txt links in the browser?

It works fine here, Opera opens all files that it can open.

Not that I know but bad mime types from the site may do it.
