Tab bar doesn't fully expand

Hi there,
i love Opera, its the best browser IMHO. Great work, thanks you a lot!
However on Ubuntu 14.04 the tab bar doesn't fully expand. There is always a gap if you open a couple of tabs. I can't reproduce this by opening a bunch of tabs. It happens after a while. I have no clue what triggers this. Beside the useless "Menu"-Button, which is much too big and a waste of horizontal space, this narrows the tab bar even more.
Maybe this is related to my desktop environment (Compiz and Gnome Classic/Fallback) or the theme (default theme)?Here is a screenshot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx2OvYu14jkJejg0SFg4QVZWTWs
Any one else has this problem or better a fix for it?

It seems that it has to do with window decorations. I disabled the title bar for all maximized windows (in Compiz). If I un-maximize/restore the window, then the tab bar is expanded correctly.

Btw: is there a way to make the "Menu"-Button smaller? For instance removing the word "Menu" and just keep the Opera-Icon?

In Opera 45 (currently in Beta), the navigation sidebar from speed dial can be "pinned" to always be shown; if it is "pinned" the menu button becomes just an O inside this sidebar. So in 45 there will be a way, at the expense of losing a little space on the left side of the entire window. No way to change it in 44 though.

Hmmm... I think its reasonable for every one to maximize the size of the tab bar. Especially if you have plenty of space to waste next to the address bar below. Chromium and Firefox developers understood this. Is there any chance that Opera developers will realize this as well?
