[Solved]Opera won't update or install

Windows 7 64 bit
Opera 42.0.2393.517When I go Menu > About Opera, it shows the version number, says there is a new 44 version, attempts to update, then says "failed to download update".
The Menu tab itself is red, and when clicked says there is a security update. When I click that, it takes me to a download page for a new installation of Opera instead of an update. When I download the Opera Installer and run, a popup says "thank you for choosing Opera, downloading" but the download bar never changes.
I disabled my firewall and tried doing both things again, with the same result. I even went to Program Filesx86 > Opera > (version number) > opera_autoupdate.exe which did nothing.
Is Opera no longer updating for Win7? Are newer versions only for 8+? Isn't 44 the latest version, the opera website doesn't say anywhere?
IF and when I get it to update, what can I do about all my open tabs, I don't want to lose them.

The latest version of Opera on the stable release channel is 44.0.2510.1218, Windows 7 should still support updates. Does the download load Opera to your computer? The session restore should restore your tabs or you could save your tabs to speed dial, then reopen them when you can.

As I said, the installer doesn't do anything. A popup about downloading just hangs.

I didn't know there was an offline version.
So I was able to dl the offline one and install it, updating opera to v44... and now the browser won't connect to anything. It will open, but no page will load. I'm posting here with firefox.

It's mentioned in Opera for Windows page

This is something for another discussion. The update issue was solved.
