The previous version of Opera let you listen to youtube in the background, but new one does not.

Thanks god they fix that nasty bug. It was terrible if you opened link from Facebook app in browser, and watched video amd then used back button to return to Facebook app but video was still playing

The same happens here with Youtube app so I guess it's a change on Android.
No, it's not, I'm using 37 beta running Android 6.0. Edit: I will investigate why Chrome Dev doesn't work anymore, either latest v chocked or moving from default to SD memory may have this effect.

I noticed this issue too but this change was officially made by Google due to Youtube Red that has background audio
