Bookmarks problem

I do not seem to be able to get the hang of Opera Bookmarks.
- When I click on the heart icon to save a bookmark, it already has a folder selected and says "Bookmark Added!". What if I want the bookmark to go into a different folder?
- I try selecting a different folder on the Heart Icon window, but there seems to be no "Add" button to add it to that folder and the folder I want does not stay selected, when the drop-down menu retracts, it is still the previous folder selected.
- Then I go into the "Show all Bookmarks" page, but I do not seem to be able to drag or move bookmarks into different folders.
So I am in the situation that all of my bookmarks are in a single folder that has got so large that it will not even show all of the bookmarks in it when I click on that folder in the Bookmarks Bar.
What am I doing wrong?

Just selecting the different folder puts it there.

I am sorry but on my computer, a desktop running Windows 7 Pro and with Opera 40.0, none of the previous replies work. Changing the folder does not put the bookmark into a different folder - in fact, although I go the the folder I want using the dropdown menu, and click or double click on it, went the dropdown menu goes back, it is still the old folder showing.
On the "Show all Bookmarks" page, I cannot drag a bookmark to a different folder.
Do I have some setting turned on that prevents these changes? -

Does it work with a clean standalone installation?I Have Opera 40.0. Do you mean to reinstall Opera? What does standalone mean?
