Opera crashes when opening "settings"

Hi everyone.
First of all, I am dutch speaking (from Belgium) but I can handle English pretty well.
I have searched the forum and I can't find a thread concerning Opera crashing when opening "settings".
I have this version installed: Versie: 38.0.2220.41
Updatestream: Stable
System: Windows 7 64-bit (WoW64)
It located itself when installing in C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera

Now, I can't enter the settings tab at all, I can't make changes, and I can't delete history and so on ...
When it does crash (while attempting to open settings, or deleting history), I have to go to my taskbar icon, and rightclick, and choose "new incognito window".
From there on I can go to the top left menu in the brwoser, and select "new window".
After doing that, I can close the incognito window, and keep the last one open.
Finally, only then can I begin to use the normal browser again.

Of course, I can never attempt to open settings or history (unless I want the whole game to start all over agian)

Are there any solutions please? Thank you.

No, that doesn't make Opera crash, I tried all items in the menu on the left.
Note: when I open History, there is no problem. However, the moment I click the button on the upper right "delete history" (in the history window) it crashes.
Opening "settings" has the same effect, it crashes Opera.
It seems to me that Opera crashes the moment it needs to connect with the settings area.
I get a pop-up window saying (I translate):

"Opera browser has stopped working.A problem has occurred which prevents the program from working properly. The program will be closed and a message will be shown when a solution is available."

From that moment on, I can't open a normal browser window anymore (it instantly crashes, probably because Opera remembers the last tab).
I need to work around, opening a private window (right-click the icon in the taskbar), then go to Menu (top left), and choose "New window". After this, I can close the private window, and continue in the normal new window I have opened.
(which still prevents me from opening "settings" of course.

Note:
Ik have already done things like uninstall, and repair, and installing a clean new (latest) version, newly downloaded from Opera. It makes no difference. I have even tried installing the Beta version, which has exactly the same problem.

This problem started more or less one month ago.
Since Opera is partly Chrome based, I'm beginning to think it may have something to do with CHrome updates?
I have noticed, several months ago, that Chrome no longer supported the Unity Player, due to an update.

This poses some problems for me, since Opera is a very easy browser for me, also to keep bookmarks, and have a clear overview of my websites and stuff. I am also logged in to Opera, to maintain a backup of several things, including bookmarks. But now that I can't access settings, I can't set it to work according to my preferences.

What's your file system configuration and storage capacity at the moment?
The thing you described sounds pretty drastic to me.

Other browsers o'k?
Which antivirus program are you employing at present? Other "hardwired" programs? (Cleaners/optimisers of some sort?)

For the first paragraph, I meant you to undertake a serious shake up of your system...
Are there ANY other problems noticeable having occured there recently?

Try this.
Turn off Opera Sync if you have it enabled.
Then with Opera closed, find your profile folder (the path should be listed in "About Opera" assuming you can access that page).
Rename the profile folder to "Profile.old" and restart Opera.
If the settings page then works you have something corrupted in your profile which is causing the crash.
Opera will have generated a new clean profile (the reason I said to turn Sync off was to stop the corrupted data being re-downloaded into the new profile from the Opera servers!)
If you don't want to lose your old profile data and start again with the clean one, you now have the rather tedious job of finding out which of the profile files is causing the crash.
Go to the profile folder location again, delete the newly generated clean profile, and rename your old profile folder back from "Profile.old" to "Profile".
When you run Opera again, it should be crashing again.
Now look in the Profile\Data folder, and one by one rename the following files by adding ".old" to the end of their names.
"Bookmarks", "History", and "Preferences" (note that these files do not have file extensions).
In each case, after you disable a file by re-naming it, Opera will generate a new one when it runs.
If Opera stops crashing after one is disabled, there's your culprit!
If it still crashes go back and delete the newly generated file and rename the original back.
Note that if you get to the "Preferences" file, all your settings will go to their defaults.
Bookmarks and History are the prime suspects here, so hopefully it will be one of those.
It may mean losing your old bookmarks or history, but at least you'll have a working Opera again.
Remember that if you re-enable Sync, it may re-load the corrupted version of the file.

Extra info (may be of importance): Due to my work on websites, and being able to see how they look in different browsers (also testing them out), I have the following browsers also installed:

Try disabling Avast.

I'd rather suggest this.
Don't - for now - delete or rename back, but rather copy the files, one at a time, from that .old to this new one. "Override" yes.
This way you won't lose anything nor get into a fuddle.
Afterwards, you proceed with the deleting and renaming back :idea:
