It actually can. Firefox for Android has a combined address and search bar. It starts making the keyboard act as if it's a URL field and as soon as you press space it converts the keyboard to the regular layout for typing.
Well yeah, AFTER you PRESS space, it's not inserted by default when swiping, so how is this related?
I just tried it and it does indeed switch, but if I use a swipe motion to type two words, no space is inserted between them when I am still in the URL edit mode. So you still need to press space at least once (for me actually two manual spaces are required before it switches on the standard Galaxy S3 Samsung Keyboard).
I don't use Firefox much, do you think this is a good solution Opera should blatantly rip off? Would the OP be satisfied with the Firefox solution?
I don't use swipe keyboards at all so hard for me to tell if this is actually better or not I have no issue with the way it works now.
