Auto-space not working on default search page

I'm running the latest Opera browser for Android (Nov 22nd, 2013).
After the update before the last, the auto-space doesn't work on the default page when searching. I understand it may think that it is a URL, but it didn't use to do this. I use that as a search bar so it is very annoying. Perhaps you should separate the search bar from the URL bar?
Nobody wants to manually enter spaces.
I'm using the stock Android keyboard on Android 4.2.2.

What do you mean by auto-space?
For instance, I can swipe a word and a space is added before the next character I type or word I swipe (HTC Text Input keyboard from Sense 3.6 and Google's). I can also swipe to and from the space bar to add spaces between words without lifting my finger (phrase gesture) and the spaces are correcly added (Google official keyboard).

I'm using the stock Android keyboard, which is still different than the official Google keyboard.
The spaces aren't added for me but perhaps that is because my keyboard is detecting the bar as a URL bar. It's just strange that it didn't do that before.
The spaces are added everywhere else, just not on that default home page.

The URL is now unified with the search bar, which means it can either present itself as a URL bar and hence give you the URL keyboard, which is convenient to type addresses with, or it could present itself as a search bar and you would then get auto spaces.
It can't do both.

Wait, I was able to reproduce the issue using the HTC Text Input keyboard! Spaces are not added between the words swiped.
Swiping words in any other single-line text field on a page also presents the same bug. (ANDEX-6599)With the official Google keyboard from the Play Store the spaces are added normally.

It actually can. Firefox for Android has a combined address and search bar. It starts making the keyboard act as if it's a URL field and as soon as you press space it converts the keyboard to the regular layout for typing.

Well yeah, AFTER you PRESS space, it's not inserted by default when swiping, so how is this related?
I just tried it and it does indeed switch, but if I use a swipe motion to type two words, no space is inserted between them when I am still in the URL edit mode. So you still need to press space at least once (for me actually two manual spaces are required before it switches on the standard Galaxy S3 Samsung Keyboard).
I don't use Firefox much, do you think this is a good solution Opera should blatantly rip off? Would the OP be satisfied with the Firefox solution?
I don't use swipe keyboards at all so hard for me to tell if this is actually better or not I have no issue with the way it works now.
