This might seem like a silly question, but exactly where is the magical option?

I ask, because that was my first thought. I looked for any such option, I didn't find it and perhaps more disturbingly Opera itself could not find it when I used Opera's own Settings Search to look for any setting including the word default

So, whatever Opera calls this magical setting, apparently its name does not mention the word "default"

There is a setting option to MAKE Opera the default browser, but neither I not Opera itself have been able to find any setting that controls whether or not Opera checks to see if it is the default browser.

The splash screen only comes with each update, you'll get the splash screen again with the next update.

The current windows version is 111.0.5168.55 -- if the next update is 111.something it will make noise. If the next update is 112.something it is supposed to be quiet.

Situation: Opera is NOT the default browser, and I don't want it to be the default, but I do use Opera daily (as well as three other browsers)

Problem: Latest version of Opera insists on checking to see if it is the default browser, and begging me to make it the default browser every time it starts.

As noted above, I know Opera is not the default browser, and I don't want Opera to be the default browser. I wish that Opera would still let me turn off this nonsense (like every other browser in the world), but I cannot find any setting to tell Opera not to check to see if it is the default browser.

This unacceptable behavior is recent, so I assume the hard coded check for being the default browser was introduced recently.

@blackbird71 -- yeah. Personally I figure that the wasted popup tab is bad enough, without the stupid music that is nothing but a waste of time and disc space. I acknowledge that the screen telling me about the update is probably essential -- especially since all the browsers like to occasionally change your settings without asking.

But I would really really really appreciate a setting to skip the damn trumpet blare or whatever that stupid noise is supposed to be.

@quantumpanda - Oh, I agree that it is a minor annoyance and no it's not "a hill I would die on" - but it is an annoyance that any competent and customer-focused developer would either avoid or make optional. I mentioned it mostly for two reasons:

1. Opera had just now annoyed me with it, and a place to complain about it was just a click away;
   and
2. So far as my experience, this annoyance was a new facet of Opera (while previously Firefox was the only browser where I encountered this particular stupidity). I had a probably vain hope that the developers might be at least slightly interested in the opinion of their supposed customer

This isn't the only minor annoyance in Opera, or even the worst (if simply because the updates aren't excessively frequent, while my pet peeve with Opera is a twice daily occurrence).

Is there a way to disable the stupid useless Default Browser Check that the developers have created to harass anyone who dares try to use Opera without making it their only browser?

I had it disabled before, but apparently the [Never To Be Sufficiently Damned] developers decided to shove it back in -- and, of course, there is no menu to stop this insanity because the developers want to harass anyone who dares not have Opera as their default
