You can clone a tab with right click on a tab and then clone a tab.
sidney, yes I know that and I'm sure OP knows that too. Did you read my previous post?
Option to clone the tab is already there on the tabbar, but clicking with MMB on refresh is much faster and more
comfortable.
And did you read request carefully?
Please add option to Clone a tab by clicking MMB on Refresh Toolbar button.
leushino, you are wrong, Firefox has a sidebar, just edit your toolbar and add a "window" like icon. When you click on that icon, a little drop-down menu lets you choose bookmarks and history sidepanels. Or you can use shortcuts, use CTRL+B for bookmarks or CTRL+H, for History. With extensions you can have for example vertical tabs and many more.
Internet Explorer has Favorites/Feeds/History sidepanels. When you click on the star icon in toolbar, in favorites popup menu on the top-left you can find "Pin the favorites center". And it becomes a sidepanel.
Safari has one too, just go to View menu, and click "Show sidebar".
As for RSS, I know it was a bad example, but it is still used, just a lack of good clients made it less popular. I use Thunderbird which has a built in RSS reader.
Sidepanels are awesome for those who want to browse internet and want to have some sort of tool at hand and best place to place one is the side of the browser. Chromium's API allows us to create extensions that cover a webpage or are in a popup or in a separated window only.
Seriously why do you oppose sidepanel so much, do you have a 4:3 screen?
leushino, I don't agree with you. And we are talking about a sidepanel with a variable content, not built in content. Suggestion says "in this sidepanel should be a space for extensions".
I wrote few extensions for chrome few years ago (for my use, not published on store), and I can totally agree with OP, for now chromium's API allows us to create a popup window or an entirely new window and we can't alter UI in any way. So if we want something that is in this same window, but is always visible for user it would be great.
A lot depends on how it would be made, there would be one extension at a time, or if it could be split, there would be more than one at a time. But not to make it too complicated, for me even one at a time would be great.
Clicking on extension's icon in toolbar, would reactivate and redraw your extension in sidebar, just like it happens now, in popup. Clicking icon, redraws all from scratch and connects to listeners in background, and only way to restore its state is to load/save content from cookies.
It would give us a possibility to write various tools, like facebook chat, rss feed reader, dictionary (like denshi jisho), wikipedia search bar and so on, possibilities are infinite. And if you don't want to use it, just don't activate it.
And btw, there is a way to inject content to a webside, but it's extremely limited, so I would gladly welcome sidepanel.
And i've never been able to understand the idea behind cloning a tab.
I will give you one example, when you are browsing a webpage which opens images in the same window via java script, middle click doesn't work and when you press back you are redirected to something unrelated or for example position on a webpage you were on is reset.
So if you know a page you are browsing works this way, you can just clone that tab ahead and open link/image without worrying much, after you close current tab you go to the cloned one and taaadaaa you were where you left before.
This happens on a poorly made websites with no way to close image, for example it should open in a popup, but instead opens in the same window.
Option to clone the tab is already there on the tabbar, but clicking with MMB on refresh is much faster and more comfortable. Chrome, Chromium (on Linux), SWIron, Superbird, Slimjet all have it. Mozilla and all Chromium browsers have it, so now question is; was it removed in Opera from chromium's source code or did others add that feature to their forks?
The only problem with this approach is when you go to the sides of the screen. Tabs should squeeze then to the opposite direction. For example, when you hoover over tabs on the left, tabs would squeeze to the right.
EDIT: And one more problem, it would be hard to "catch" x-close button, because movement would be proportional to quantity of tabs in the strip. But anyway I still think it's not that bad idea. And I'm happy you like it
I hope I can get this right - problem is that there doesn't exist quick, simple and unobtrusive way to identify tab title (and/or page address).
Yes. And thank you
Yes, it can, but you need to enable (advanced) power user settings.
how do I do that? It's not in flags?
Oh gosh I started this after provocative post from leushino. I use 12.16, because I have some problems with yahoo mail in 12.17 O.O But anyway, I know a person with SLA (paralysis), and he use opera 11 (I don't know exact version) with voice support.
Not really, it's how you switch tabs. Menu is a 2 click solution, and when you have more tabs you have to scroll as well. As for tabs preview, it covers your actual page, and when you accidentally hover over the tabstrip it gets annoying. So I guess disabling tabs preview on default was a good choice
The other way to see tab's title is a hint which is already there, but first one shows with a default system's delay time. I said before it's 400ms, but it's actually 1000ms. If Opera uses CToolTipCtrl they can use CToolTipCtrl::SetDelayTime function to set it to a very low value.
But I don't know if Opera folks would even apply this. It appears they don't listen to a mere humans
Hmmm, I took a look at Leushino's profile and he has hundreds of posts with this same pattern "Opera Presto is dead. Deal with it." He never says anything constructive. And there are always leocg and sidney taking his side. I want to hear from them what kind of features new Opera has to offer to stand out more than any other Blink Chromium browser.
Like Windows list? Or vertical tabstrip arrangement? I would vote for windows list panel. And what is that "pitched pop noise"?
Indeed, cool idea, some way to inject content to a sidepanel instead of making a window or a popup would be cool.
Opera Mail is, basically, dead.
Yup, and it will never be resurrected anymore.
You can use Thunderbird, its from a "We are working for Nothing"-community.
This comment made me laugh... Mozilla programmers that pulls strings are payed from funds/donations/various gadgets sells. Those who work for free are the only open source minded programming monkeys that download source code and search for errors in their "favorite" software which is made by the payed ones And moreover, there is a lot more of them there, than in company itself, but at least they bring more innovation than payed folks...
Only 2 people commented on my suggestion, all other went off topic... And Opera employee completely ignored my idea probably without even looking at my images. And bringing topic about tab previews which has nothing to do with my suggestion, and by review on blog results that people don't even like it... I've admitted my mistake about menu, but my point still stands, menu is uncomfortable and probably it's rarely used by anyone. Is there any moderator who can clean that up? Leave just first 2 comments and please people, don't bring up the features that are already there, because it's a feature request/suggestion and not a problem solving section.
