thank you for that. knowing that GIU stands for "Graphical User Interface" doesn't tell me a thing about what it is.

but until Opera fixes the security problem for those of us who wish to stick with one of the older versions I am not interested, though I liked and trusted Opera more than any of the other browsers. On top of that, I have no way of knowing which version I had and if I were to go back I would want that specific version because I had figured it all out...

as you can problem tell, I am slow when it comes to tech stuff, easily frustrated.

on the other hand I have survived living in caves, have worked with street gangs and addicts, directed a substance abuse program, mined for gemstones all over this nation, cut and polished gemstones set them and did repairs in both gold and sterling silver, as well as fabricating new pieces, and have cooked in restaurants. I used those talents to put myself through school, earning an N.D. degree, and to support my work in the health care field for over 35 years, mostly at free clinics, etc etc.

I taught myself to use computers (without ever playing a game on one) about 30 years ago and cannot understand the lingo or keep up with any of the modernization.

what is GUI?
your directions about disabling Opera so it cannot force me back to the new version later - those directions did not work. and besides as others have said, that would mean my opera is putting me at risk because there would be no security updates.

Opera blew it with this new version.

none of that was on the Opera full screen page. no way at all off that except to use Task Manager to shut it all down... so I lost everything I had been working on in other tabs...

yeah. I tried to follow the directions to do all of that.
now I have given up on Opera and went back to Firefox and Brave because I will never do Edge or any Microsoft program if I can help it.

so very complicated. impossible to follow.

I just want the old Opera which was easy to use. but I have no way of knowing which version I had before.

After using Opera for 3 or 4 years as the most important of the browsers that I use I have had to uninstall it and quit using it because this new updated version cannot work at all. I never can see more than one tab at a time and have no way to move from that tab to any other, no way to move around at all except to use my Task Manager to shut down and restart.

Too bad, Opera used to be great. Now in attempts to give more it has become far too complicated and specialized. You guys have lost a lot of users...

and all the supposed explanations about how to go back to the former Opera, all of them were super complicated and quite impossible to follow.

I don't understand what this is. what is a workspace? what does this phrase mean, " fine tab counting functionality to Opera GX"? what is a "fine tab"? what does "counting functionality" mean?
what does this phrase mean, " adding the current workspace's tab count to the badge"? what is "the badge"?

as a matter of fact, every time I have checked to see what various add-ons are, I cannot understand the explanations at all.

I am sorry. other people have I guess been able to follow your instructions but I got lost right at the beginning when you said something about cleaning up something and then said to download this - https://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/99.0.4788.88/win/Opera_99.0.4788.88_Setup_x64.exe
HOW DO I go about downloading a url? I tried putting it in the address box but nothing happens. it is not a place to go.

oh and now I cannot speak to any of the rest of your instructions because opera has this forum set up so I cannot both be here composing a reply and go up to your words above.

meanwhile I have wasted 9 hours already today trying to use the new version (I cannot get another tab to appear and I cannot close a tab I am seeing without going to Task Manager to shut down the browser...

and I cannot find any way to download an older version.
and I haven't been this frustrated in the past 70 years!

oh and I also don't know why I bother with replying or asking for help in a forum, I have never ever been able to get a response to any comment or question I have ever sent any forum anywhere on the internet. I don't know how to speak the current language. I still speak read and write in English. none of the Instructions I see anywhere make sense to me.

oh well... I have just lost touch with 2 Depression and 1 Suicide group where I have been working with some seriously suffering people and have no idea how to get back there...

I loved the version of Opera that I have been using for the last several years. without my permission it updated today and I cannot get the new version to work at all. how do I go back to the prior version?
