Sync not working after OS reinstallSynchronization
Hello,
To make things short. Latest stable build, reinstalled OS (Win 10 Pro x64 FCU). First thing, download my browser, try to sign in, and sync, it looks like I can log, but it won't sync anything at all. I go on the web, suddenly it show that I have ZERO, well, anything, passwords, bookmarks all gone. In the browser, it shows with a orange exclamation mark. Advanced Configuration for Sync - grayed out after I signed in and tried to check passwords too.
This is not the first time I was in this kind of situation. I had issues a few months ago, and had to reset a hundred passwords. Being somewhat reluctant with new OS installs, I backed up the Users folder, so I suppose I can restore some stuff.
Before going there, is there anything I can do? I mean, even if I restore the passwords, it looks that sync just won't work. !

RE: Control+tab or control+shift+tab crashes operaOpera for Windows
I opened tons of tabs (maybe 200) out of curiosity and tried crashing it but it seemed stable with Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+Shift+Tab. Browsed some and didn't notice anything.
Maybe it's specific to some hardware config.

RE: Tabs stackingSuggestions and feature requests
I know the original post is quite old, but as somebody that grew with Opera since when you had to buy it (time flies doesn't it), tab stacking was one of the most useful features.
From time to time I raid the extensions to see if it's not done yet, and the only thing I can ever find is unmaintained wannabe extensions that don't come close to how it worked at all.
From what I understand not even Vivaldi's tab stacking works as it used to in Opera 12.
It's a shame that we lost this feature and after so many years, it didn't make a comeback. I assume most current Opera users are new and never seen it in action, or this topic would be way more popular.
Kindly consider bringing it back. -

RE: Restore old passwords from Users/partition backup - possible?Synchronization
@zalex108 Thanks for the reply.
The Decryptor app works on the fresh OS install, but if I try to decode the old LoginData file (just replaced the new one for testing to see how it goes), it will only recover usernames. I am now in the process of converting the TIB file from Acronis to VHD and I will attempt to boot from it, or maybe use it on a VM as a HDD. I do have a feeling that it will require the passphrase and it will only give the usernames again, and while I do suspect what the passphrase was, I am hardly sure about that.
Thing is, we're on the net, and people are used to be able to recover things they forgot with a simple authentication code sent to their email, or even a 2 step authentication on the phone. There should be no way in hell 100 passwords could disappear in smoke just like that. I relied on the Opera account to remember stuff so I don't have to, outside the essentials. I mean, who would remember 100 passwords, each 10-15 characters, all with numbers and capitals?
TL;Dr/suggestion: People should be able to recover their stuff if they forget things like the passphrase. once their identity is proven with a confirmation email and so on, they should be able to download/sync/import the passwords.

Restore old passwords from Users/partition backup - possible?Synchronization
Hello,
I upgraded my PC and reinstalled a fresh Windows 10 and pretty much lost the passphrase/password to the old Opera account. I assumed I'll just reset the password and all will be fine, but I basically lost everything as it required me to "reset sysc data" or something on the website after I changed the passoword.
Luckily enough I made a rar from the whole Users folder before syncing and also an Acronis backup of the whole OS partition. Is there any way I can recover my stuff, primarily the hundreds of passwords?
Thank you!

RE: The new "Show Password" dialogueFuture releases
As things have changed again, I thought I would drop and give an update.
- the --disable-features=CredUIPromptForWindowsCredentials" flag stopped working for me, sadly
- the new and "improved" dialogue shows now and all options work for me (if I enter my Microsoft account email as "user name", not the actual user name, including PIN
- this dialogue box always has more steps t ogo through compared to the old method
Anyway, happy it's fixed.

Can we please STOP adding spammy new entries in Speed Dial?Future releases
What's with Facebook, Ali Express, Booking Amazon and so on? If I need a site, I will add it, I don't need this cheap advertising in my browser.
Stop being greedy. Look at how being greedy ends in the latest EA vs Gamers debacle, it ends in 3 Billion stock loss.
This happened twice already the last week. And it happened in the past as well.
Stop it. There are MANY free browsers to choose from, remember that, Opera.

Bookmark bar reappears even after disabling it repeatedlyFuture releases
Hello,
Not much else to say about this. Last version of Opera prompted me to import stuff from other browsers, I remember some stuff I had in Chrome from ages ago, imported, disable bookmark bar, but it keeps reappearing by itself every few days. Nothing important, just annoying. I disabled it maybe 3-4 times now, both from the Settings and from right clicking on the bar and unticking it.

RE: The new "Show Password" dialogueFuture releases
Can we at least get it acknowledged?
You probably won't see such thing here.
Do you need more data about the bug?
It's a Chromium issue so Google needs to fix it.
Alright so I went hunting for the bug on the web. There is a solution for this issue, what you need to do is run Opera with the "--disable-features=CredUIPromptForWindowsCredentials" flag, and it will return to the old behavior.
Now you will only be asked for your Windows password, and it's back to normal. Hope it helps others that might be stuc kin the same position I was.

RE: The new "Show Password" dialogueFuture releases
50.0.2729.0, still broken, just like before.
I feel this is quite an important issue. I have basically lost access to all my passwords. Can we at least get it acknowledged? Do you need more data about the bug? I would be happy to help.

RE: The new "Show Password" dialogueFuture releases
Strange, works here. Windows 10 x64. It preselected my username (for Windows), I just entered the correct password and it worked.
Not for me, tried again.
I get a few choices. Neither works.
- email address+password - not working
- user name associated with the Windows account created with email above+password - not working
- More Choices clicked - PIN option - error "the data area passed to a system call is too small" after 2nd attempt, 1st attempt, nothing happens.
- More Choices clicked - last choice shows my account name/email, can be clicked, now asks for password - password doesn't work, incorrect
Yet again, to double check the password, went to https://outlook.live.com, signed out, signed back in with the very same password and email, works just fine.
I am not sure what is happening. Windows 10x64 Pro, Admin account.

RE: The new "Show Password" dialogueFuture releases
Still broken in 49.0.2723.0 (PGO). Is this reported as a Chromium issue? Does the fix depend exclusively on Chromium devs? It's somewhat of a serious issue being unable to access your sensitive data.

The new "Show Password" dialogueFuture releases
Hello,
Opera 49 seems to have modified the way you can access your passwords. Now I am asked my user name and given additional options if I want to access my passwords. Problem is, it doesn't work.
What I have is a Windows 10x64 where I have it logged with a normal account that I am quite sure is "local" (whatever the steps were necessary so it automatically logs in when I boot). I don't know all my passwords by heart, so I sometimes accessed Opera password list to see the ones I couldn't remember, and all I was asked for was the PC password - which was the same as the one that the hotmail/windows account has, and it was all fine.
Now I am getting this new dialogue and whatever I try it says the password is incorrect. My passwords are now completely out of my reach, even if I tested the password on Outlook and Live services and it works there, just to make sure. Trying the PIN option returns "The Data Area Passed to a System Call Is Too Small" error.
Please help.

Sync stopped working in Opera 49Synchronization
Hello,
Not much else to say. 49.0.2695.0 (PGO), Win 10 x64. Worked perfectly for weeks, maybe months, today it just shows the red cross, after I try to sign in "something went wrong". This happened in the past I believe, there was an opera page or something that showed more details about the error, but I can't find the topic any more and don't remember it. On my phone it looks like I am still signed in.
So, is it from me? Or is the service down? Thanks.
EDIT:
OK I found the old topic and the page I had to visit, error is
Actionable Error
Error Type DISABLED_BY_ADMIN
Action DISABLE_SYNC_ON_CLIENT
URL
Error Description Broken developer buildI think it's similar to the past issue.

RE: [Solved] Opera Sync stopped working because of a "Broken Dev Build"Synchronization
Same here:
Error Type DISABLED_BY_ADMIN
Action DISABLE_SYNC_ON_CLIENT
URL
Error Description Broken developer build
It worked nicely for weeks however.

Exporting passwords to fileFuture releases
Is there any way to do that? I want to keep a copy of my passwords, changed the most of them after the breach incident, and most are now long&hopefully secure, which means there's no way in hell to remember so many long passwords. I'd rather have an offline copy instead of having to enter the Microsoft account password in Opera each time I want to see a hidden password field.

RE: Cannot remove AliExpress from suggestionsFuture releases
For me, Opera sponsored suggestions always show first and always come back (I can remove them but they are back the next time I return to speed dial) which is why I just disabled suggestions completely. Not useful in its current form.
My god, it even comes back from the Trash You can temporarily "hide" it (1 hour? 2? 3? one app restart maybe?), but then it's recreated and slapped right back on the top of Suggestions. You can delete/hide the Opera suggestion - it won't return. But AliExpress? Stuck with it.
This was not a case in Opera until this new dev version I've installed of Opera 41, I was on the x64 Opera 40 dev before it and all was OK, you could delete all the default items in Speeddial etc. In the end I gave up and unticked Suggestions altogether.
I don't understand why they think this is OK to do. There is so much choice on the browser market, why would you risk alienating users?
