@newworldman Here is a well reasoned statement why the closed tabs feature is/was so useful. Compare it with Opera shills' claims how sexy the new search in closed tabs and search in open tabs features are and what a joy it is to work with them. Without giving any substantiations to these claims.
@airforce25228 It's just an Opera shill covering up for their screw ups. Sometimes I may have about 30-40 tabs open, where you cannot see their names. But it's easier to just click open some in the general area then doing open tabs search. I have always been wondering why this feature was needed. There is an earlier post is this thread that goes deep into exploring why the search in open tabs feature is a useless one.
@Rogerb said in [Solved]Bring back the "Recently closed" button on the top bar on the right:
while offering the new sexy feature of searching open tabs
This sounds like an Opera shill performance. What's so sexy about searching open tabs? Unless one is a pervert, of course. I personally have never used it and try as I may, I cannot see any reason why I would search in open tabs instead of simply looking through them. And it's not only me. Several other people in this thread have stated that they find the search in open tabs feature absolutely useless.

But, there is a solution. Update to Opera 71
Especially for graduates of the Midvale School for Gifted I repost my earlier post:
My Opera will not update to version 71, it says my version 70 is up to date.
Anyway, it's too little too late. I am already on my way to Vivaldi.
@treego said in [Solved]Bring back the "Recently closed" button on the top bar on the right:
I think Opera has gotten even better with respect to recently closed tabs, honestly, over the past few version updates.
Until I got to this sentence I was willing to give the benefit of a doubt that this is some die hard Opera fan, but now I can see that this is just an Opera shill.
There are plenty of citations in this thread why the recent crutch of the closed tabs is not as convenient, as the old one was, and to state that it's an improvement is definitely shilling for Opera/
@treego I don't. My Opera will not update to version 71, it says my version 70 is up to date.
Anyway, it's too little too late. I am already on my way to Vivaldi.
@airforce25228 Who says I am not going to do anything? I have already done. I have switched to Vivaldi, which has the closed tabs option and lots of other goodies that Opera does not.
As for as being louder, why should I beg someone to give me something that others are offering to give me without my asking for it?
@treego Oh, really? And only three items in the list? And the list in the middle of the screen? Well, some people like pain.
@airforce25228 People, why are you keeping on flogging this dead horse? It should be obvious by now that whoever are developing Opera 1) have no idea what they are doing and 2) don't give a damn about their users. So just bury it and get a new one. Vivaldi looks worth giving it a try.
@nicolleen As I said, I don't really need VPN. Besides, what else besides VPN does this Ghost have? Vivaldi does have a bunch of goodies that I like.
P.s. Oh, I see, it's and application. But they want money. I an't paying.
@nicolleen I am currently using Vivaldi alongside with Opera in the process of complete switching to it. I would say that other than usual unfamiliarity with the new interface, which in reality is not that much different from Opera, it's quite an commendable product. I'm planning to completely switch to it and make it my default browser.
@nicolleen Go Vivaldi. It has more than 20 recently closed tabs and a bunch of other goodies. It may take a little while to get used to, but it will be worth it. I am currently using Vivaldi alongside with Opera in the process of complete switching to it.
The only thing that Vivaldi does not not have it's the free VPN. But I personally practically do not use VPN in Opera anyway.
There is another flaw with Opera that Vivaldi fixes. Opera has some bug that won't let you do authentication on sites using social networks. Vivaldi does it without any problems.
Try it and see for yourself and tell "helpful" Opera developers to stick their product into that orifice of their anatomy where the sun does not shine, if they threat their users this way.
I have been using Vivaldi alongside with Opera for a while now, and I have been quite satisfied with it. However, I have discovered one flaw with it. Namely, sometimes, when downloading with it, the file completely downloads, but the downloading process does not stop and Vivaldi just keeps creating new processes. If you don't catch this in time and kill the job, eventually it hogs all the resources and computer stops responding. The only way to bring it back up is to reset it. It happened to me once and now I am watching for this.
But overall, I am very happy with Vivaldi.
@Rogerb Go Vivaldi. It has over 20 recently closed tabs in the list. That's not counting other goodies. And let Opera "developers" stick their product in that place of their anatomy where the sun does not shine, if they don't want to listen to their users.
@skoy21 That's exactly what I was saying to suggestions to switch to Vivaldi. Scroll this topic up, you will see my reaction. Unfortunately, Opera has left me no other choice. Yes, it will take a while getting used to the new interface, so it feels as comfortable as Opera's, but it's just a matter of time. I will waste no more of my time begging for something that should be provided as a matter of fact.
@ericartman92 It's just like a favorite pair of old shoes. You get so comfortable with them, that even when they are falling apart you don't want to get a new pair. But finally you cannot use them any longer and are forced to switch to new ones. At first they are indeed not as comfortable as the old pair. But, provided the new pair are quality shoes, you get used to them pretty fast and like them as much as the old pair.
Granted, Vivaldi has somewhat different layout, but as far as I can see it has the same functionality as Opera plus some more. And accessing this functionality is not much different that in Opera. But, of course, everyone has his/her own likes and dislikes, and what is alright for some is not alright for others and vice versa.
@skoy21 Look, people. Why get all worked up about it? Vivaldi has all the features and then some more. Moreover, it seems to work faster too. Opera seems to have become sluggish lately. I am switching to Vivaldi and will save myself some nerves.
@superduper I was wrong about Vivaldi not having a bookmark bar. It does, it's just a bit tricky to put it on. I imported it from Opera and then opted to have it displayed. Voila! A bookmark bar in Vivaldi.
@ericartman92 I have hundreds of bookmarks and tens of speedial items. Bookmarks in opera are inconvenient to access. To have all the bookmarks on a speedial makes them much more convenient to use. Besides, it allows to categorize them in folders.
Vivaldi also has a Note feature, which Opera did away with sometime in Opera 12-15. It's where you select a text in a web page and copy it to notes.
The history is also much more extensive and more convenient to use.
And, of course, the closed tabs button is there. And the list is much longer than in Opera when they had it.
The only thing which it does not have it's a bookmark bar. But with the many speed-dials feature it's not that critical, although a bit less convenient.
Personally, I am switching to Vivaldi. For the time being I will be testing it, to see that it does not have some unacceptable flaws, and if it doesn't, it's farewell Opera.
