You can add new search engines easily enough, but you can't set any added search engine as default. That means, you'll always have to select it from the list or use its keyword. And of course (probably the mistake you made), every search engine must have a keyword, and you can't have two with the same keyword. Since "g" is already used for the standard Google search, you'd need to use something like "gc" for your new search.
