Actually I almost agree with you. I REALLY liked 12.17. When I surrendered and went to the newer versions of OPERA, I decided to'go for broke', and have been running the Latest, Greatest Developer versions ever since! '38.0.2198.0-64 bit' right now, and all of them have run great. I suggest 'adventure'....

But, I know how it goes and, for instance, I will never 'advance' to Windows 10 as long as I have ONE remaining well running WIN7 computer! I guess we reach a point of being too old and cranky...

Just put OPERA 38 [64 bit] in, and it works great. I admit I did have to use a different You-Tube Downloader extension, but the one I selected works fine.

Running Windows 7 [64 bit], Sandboxie 5.10

'38' working great for me, except I had to grab a different You-Tube Downloader....That worked fine, too!

My use of OPERA [for many years now], has not really needed any extensions, except a couple years back I began using a You Tube Downloader extension, so I could save my favorites YT's as MP4 files. I wouldn't guess if that info is useful to you but the one I use has the icon of a round, red disc...with a white arrow pointing down, on the red disc.

As for OPERA? Get used to it and you'll never look back !!!

Gotta admit I don't completely understand a lot of this stuff, but whatever 'installer' I downloaded, AND KEPT, for '37, 64 bit, experimental' works just great. Yielding my current default browser : 37.0.2163.0, The Grey "O" !!! Running it on both my computer and my wife's....

I sure have had no issues and really like '37'. Darned glad I kept the Install File ! [Needed it in a recent HD install and format]

Always refreshing to see some so 'casual' about something.....But, as an old sailor, are we at sea? Salty....

On to the good news. WHY bother with the security updates in the first place. Something like 96% of them apply to I.E. The remainder I ignore 'cuz I run the computer in a sandbox; nothing {yet} has gotten out of that sandbox to do it's vicious job.

I run WIN7 / Sandboxie / Opera, and have run update free for some time, totally happy....

Once, quite a while ago, I tried to re-install a program, and could not do it. I was on the verge of doing a reformat when somebody smarter than me suggested I look in, and delete ANYTHING in two parts of REGEDIT. I found one file containing the program name, and when I deleted that entry my new install worked, as slick as snot on a door-knob!

Try un-installing whatever version of Opera you are using, then look for 'left-overs' at these TWO places in REGEDIT:

H KEY CURRENT USER > Software > Opera software

H KEY LOCAL MACHINE > Software > Opera software

Could be the answer............................but either way, I tried to help

FURTHER....Opera 35 crashed on me once in a while; '37' has been absolutely Rock-Solid!

Maybe you are using a piece of Malware Preventive that is messing you up. I run Sandboxie, but I found I have to remove Opera from S/B prior to an update....or it just, flat, wont do the job. When the new version is up and running I force Opera into The Box again.......

YUP! Those are the ones, Old Boy. Yes, they are just files you can E-Mail, just like JPGs, etc.

When I've done a re-install I usually go to that App Data folder, create a new folder I call STOCK BMs, drag the ones Opera initially put there up into that new folder, then copy and past the Three in. That permits me to revert to 'Stock' if I wanted to, not merely overwriting Stock with The Three...

I don't know what it means either, BUT... I always back-up [copy somewhere] my three (3) bookmark files located in the WIN7 User App Data Roaming folder. Many times on a reformat I have then 'surgically' inserted them into the same NEWLY installed folder; perfect.

I'd suggest you look there for those THREE.... Keep 'Em !

Yes, there is OPERA 37, Developer, for 64 bit... and I am using it as I type to you. Seems to run great...

'Dummy', here. I had been running a slightly 'old' version of Sandboxie; when I let it go UP to 5.10, Opera 37 RUNS PERFECTLY!

I downloaded from the Blog...Windows [64 bit]. Seems to run fine UNTIL I try to run it through my Sandboxie sandbox. Don't know why, so I went back to 35.

From what I recently heard, in passing, on Windows Weekly [Thurrott and Mary Jo], Google Hangouts have been shut down. From my own inability to BEAT anyone into SKYPING, I'm not at all surprised............if the report is true

Probably doesn't do you any actual good, but Paul Thurott [TWIT...Windows Weekly] reports a good many issues with WIN 10, but that since uSoft is committed to WIN 10 being a success, those issues WILL be solved...

Maybe you can ride it out...

In the past I was able to make an 'original' install of '30' series OPERA, as in for a Reformat, and if I was fast enough, I unplugged the Ethernet cable from my computer before auto-update could execute. Not sure if that will work TODAY, but I have done it.

As for defeating auto-update, I have Sandboxie installed in my computers and have found that auto-update cannot work through the sandbox. In fact, the Sandboxie people suggest Un-Sandboxing OPERA {also F/F and Chrome} doing your update [assuming you want to], Re-force the browser in Sandboxie and be on your way. I expect to stay on OPERA 34 until something makes me curious about 35... or 36.
