Why the url is different? Have you tried the same video (https://assets.stuff.co.nz/video/production/1451429022625-darts best.mp4)?
I get the same thing with that URL too.
Occasionally stuff.co.nz will put up embedded Youtube videos, and they work ok.
Does that tell you anything?
Just that Opera can't open the video file.
What happen if you try to open the link of the video in a new tab?
I forgot to mention that the videos play ok in IE 11.

There might be something changed in opera://flags/ You can try reset all options to default values. There's a button for that in the right upper corner.
Also, you can try disabling all the browser add-ons/extensions, such as ad-blockers etc.
I tried resetting the flags back to default, but that didn't help. I also tried turning off my ad-blocker but that too didn't help.
I suppose my netbook might be missing a video codec, but the videos play ok in Chrome so I don't think it would be a missing codec.
Chrome doesn't rely on the OS to play videos, it uses its own library afaik.
What does opera://media-internals/ says when you try to load the video?

I guess in these "new and shiny" Windowses some mediapacks are missing. Or at least...
Try comparing those packs and stuff on both systems. Perhaps you might need to find that missing gear somehow...
You said "won't play": what does it show instead? Do you have an active frame/object there? Is there any context menu available in that area? Does it say something? Same stuff or varies?

Yeah, I'm now running 34.0.2036.25, it updated since I originally posted at the beginning of December.
It's only one site that I've found that it won't play videos on, and that's stuff.co.nz
Do you have turbo or/and "click to play" enabled by chance?
Turbo is turned off. Click to Play is also off (it's set to "Run all plug-in content (recommended)").
Works fine here. Have you disabled encrypted media extensions in opera://flags/ ?

They use the same OS? Opera relies on the OS to play some videos.
No, the one that plays videos ok is still running Windows XP, the one that won't play videos is running Windows 7. It's only one site that I've found that it won't play videos on, and that's stuff.co.nz

I tried your link and the videos, initially, would not play. I remembered Opera Turbo was enabled. After disabling, the videos played normally. There are other videos that will not play nice with Opera, turning off turbo just happened to work here.
I checked and I don't have Opera Turbo turned on. Just to be sure I turned it on and then back off, the videos still won't play.

I've just checked "Encrypted Media Extensions (EME)" in the flags and it's set to "Default (enabled)", so looks like that's not the problem.
This is the only site that I have this problem playing videos on, other sites such as Youtube work just fine.
In the flags I have the following:
Disable Media Source API
Disable Encrypted Media Extensions
Disable prefixed Encrypted Media Extensions
All of these have "Enable" buttons under them, so I assume that these settings are currently disabled? So if a "Disable" flag is disabled, does that mean the setting is enabled? (seems to be a double negative here!)
I like to use a local news site for getting my news and they often have videos. Unfortunately something has changed recently (not sure if it was me upgrading Opera or the news site changing something, but now I can't watch any of their videos.
I see the preview graphic of the video, but if I go to play it (usually just mousing over the video would normally start it playing) the preview graphic changes to say:
This video is either not available or not supported in this browser
Error code MEDIA_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED
Technical details:
The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.

At first I thought the site was using an unsupported codec, as I remember there were competing codecs for HTML 5 video and certain browsers supported certain codecs and no one could agree on what the standard should be, but these videos play ok in Chrome and since Chrome and Opera now use the same engine I thought they should support the same video codecs (or am I wrong on that point?)

I've had this problem too, usually rectangles of black appearing but also occasionally other images or text appearing where they shouldn't. It's not consistent, I might get it on a page but then revisiting that page later it won't happen.
Seems to be display related as if I flip to another tab and then back to the problem page the problem usually goes away and the problem page is redrawn correctly.

I'm using Opera 26.0.1656.60 and when I log into Google Drive I get a message pop up saying that "You are using an unsupported browser". Now I know that Google want to push people to Chrome, but since Opera now uses Googles' Blink layout engine you'd think Google would be a little bit kinder to Opera users. I assume that people using the latest versions of IE and Firefox don't get this message? What really hurts is that Google Drive seems to work just fine in Opera!

I've just noticed that I've got three different plug-ins set up for MIME type "application/pdf".
Ah, I've managed to get KeePass to work properly now with Basic Auth logins.
I had to change KeePass's Auto Type to: {DELAY 1000}+{TAB}+{TAB}{USERNAME}{TAB}{PASSWORD}{ENTER}
So that's a delay of a second, two shift-tabs to move the focus up to the username field, then send the username, a tab, the password and finally an enter.
Argh! No I can't use KeePass because Opera 20 seems to shift the focus away from the Username field when you switch to a different program. This prevents KeePass from sending the username / password to Opera as it simply sends the username, a tab, and the password to the previous program. It relies on the cursor being in the username field.
This works for other login types (i.e. an HTML form) but not for Basic Auth logins. How frustrating!
I guess it's some kind of security measure?

I do use KeePass for remembering most of my passwords as it's nice to have a centralised database of all my logins that I can use in any browser on any of my PC's, I guess I'll just have to start using that for these passwords too.
