This is a nightmare. I was able to remove the intrusive Google Link on the start page, and now whenever I open a new tab I get more rubbish on the screen: A big link button with a + sign, and other link buttons labeled Speed Dial, Stash, and Discover.
How can I make this stop? I don't want ANYTHING pushed in my face. I want a blank screen with controls on top that only do what I want them to do, like every other browser that I've seen. Is that unreasonable?
As for the original question, why even use Opera any more?
Well, Internet Explorer has a reputation for incompatibility with the Web. I don't know whether that's true now.
Chrome ignores my settings or does crazy things in response to my attempts to set settings. And Chrome is Google and Google is the Borg.
Mozilla was recently exposed as being run by fiercely bigoted heterophobes, and there may be some people who don't want to do business with that.
So what remains? Opera and a long tail of little bitty others. And Opera is kind of user-hostile, always was, so some of us have no choice but to bottom-feed. Every year or two I try Opera, get totally antagonated, and the next year I try it again.

Now let's see whether I can import the bookmarks without being tortured like Opera has always done...
How do I remove the intrusive Google links on the startup page?
I think I could find Google if I need to. I could even make a bookmark bar. But having what appear to be unwanted, nonremovable Google links at startup is intrusive and creepy.
Unless, of course, and I hope, someone can tell me how to remove them, for which I would be quite grateful.

I want to use Opera. I really do. But there are some really stupid user-hostile aspects and maybe people who like games and puzzles and problems will enjoy them but I'm not really that market.
This is crazy. I used Search with my username to find threads that I have opened, and the search couldn't find it. That is really lame.
New version of Opera?
I can't even figure out how to remove the multiple advertisements for Google in the version that I have, yet.
Listen: I've heard of Google. I can probably find it if I need to. I don't need Opera shoving it in my face.
Having said that, let me say this. Can I get rid of all references to Google on the opening screen? I'd tell you what version but I can't find that either. It's not the new one that Opera is nagging me to get, although I would get it if it doesn't have the Google problem.

Of course, just to prove that computers hate people, they imported with the list inverted, so my most-used links are on the bottom.....
My "About" says that I have Version 12.16. I don't have any of the things that you are talking about.
Should I have Version 20? Is there a reason to? I have Chrome and Firefox and even IE. I liked Chrome for a while but it ignores my attempts to make settings and of course Google is getting a little scary.

Of course the first thing you want to do when you get Opera is to import your bookmarks.
So you go to the page with instructions for that, and the first thing that it says is to hit "Settings".
If there is anything on this Opera that says "Settings", it is very cleverly hidden. I've looked everywhere and I can't find it.
Can someone please reveal this elusive "settings" to me, or perhaps give me more correct importing instructions if the ones I'm looking at are obsolete?
