I gave up on Opera a few months ago, and am back on Chrome. The new Opera is just too minimalistic and full of holes. Bookmarks are basic functionality guys!

Goodbye Opera, I tried, I really tried. I'm going back to Chrome.Opera for Windows
I just wanted to export my bookmarks from Opera, and realised there was no way to do so. That was the last straw. I'm going back to Chrome. Opera is unusable.

RE: HOW TO CHANGE URL SET IN "Enter the URL you want to be opened when a new tab is created below"???Opera for Windows
Thanks for the tip. Just did a bit of reading, and I see what you mean. Quite a story! Am very curious about Vivaldi (which I just installed to have a look at).
I do like a lot of the new stuff in the latest versions of Opera, but I really need bookmarks to work normally in my browser, among a few other things.

RE: HOW TO CHANGE URL SET IN "Enter the URL you want to be opened when a new tab is created below"???Opera for Windows
Whoops, I didn't notice that the article was about an old version of Opera. Strange though that they seem to have reduced functionality over time. It's still my favourite browser though, by far, so I shouldn't really complain
[except for this one little thing: what in God's name possessed the developers to completely destroy the bookmarks system? Clicking Ctrl+D, to add a bookmark, no longer allows you to simply navigate through a nice tree structure to the folder you wish to bookmark the page in (like in every the old skool, logical browser). Now it just dumps it in "Unsorted bookmarks". This is a terrible step back in functionality. rant mode off]
No, I didn't mean like Opera menu > Settings > On startup > Open a specific page or set of pages > Set pages, but rather: being able to set which page gets opened after you create a new tab (i.e., click Ctrl+T).
Indeed, it must've been an extension. In any case, I uninstalled Opera, and reinstalled it, and am now not being asked that question when I create a new tab. When I create a new tab, now the Speed Dial simply pops up, as intended.

RE: HOW TO CHANGE URL SET IN "Enter the URL you want to be opened when a new tab is created below"???Opera for Windows
I think I might have a problem with my installation, because when I click "Advanced settings" in Preferences, nothing extra is shown. Definitely nothing related to tabs, as mentioned here:
"For additional options for customizing tabs, click Additional tab options.
On the Additional Tab Options dialog box, you can specify the behavior of New tabs, Allow window with no tabs, choose to Show close button on each tab, or even to Open windows instead of tabs."

Also, I read somewhere that there is supposed to be a button that would allow me to access Speed Dial settings. It was supposed to be somewhere on the Speed Dial itself, but there is nothing there that looks anything like a settings button. Puzzled again.
I really like Opera, but these new versions, in which the developers are just stripping out everything logical and straightforward, are frustrating to say the least. Minimalism is cool, but so is functionality.

HOW TO CHANGE URL SET IN "Enter the URL you want to be opened when a new tab is created below"???Opera for Windows
I installed Opera, and when i created a new tab, was asked, "Enter the URL you want to be opened when a new tab is created below". I mistakenly entered an incorrect URL, so now every single time I create a new tab this broken URL is loaded. Where on earth are the settings that would allow me to change this?
I looked under Settings, but this is ridiculous: where ARE all the settings? There are like three things in there. This can't be everything?

RE: How do I add a bookmark to a specific folder in my bookmarks in Opera beta 30?Future releases
Excellent, thanks! I have just installed your extension "V7 Bookmarks" and it works great.
I’m still amazed at how the Opera development team have completely destroyed normal bookmark functionality in the latest versions of Opera. Pressing Ctrl+D is completely broken, but it's as if they haven’t even noticed. I’m going to disable the shortcut, as I never want to see that confusing dialogue that pops up when you press Ctrl+D again.

RE: How do I add a bookmark to a specific folder in my bookmarks in Opera beta 30?Future releases
I have found two extensions (see below) that allow me to navigate through my bookmark folder structure in order to add a new bookmark.
However, they both have terrible interfaces and present you with a completely flat representation of your bookmark folder structure, making it very hard to see what is what.Is there really no way to do this in Opera itself?

RE: How do I add a bookmark to a specific folder in my bookmarks in Opera beta 30?Future releases
@mbeijer
Answer to first post: For me, the heart dialog appears when I click ctrl+D, where I can choose folder. Please try this again with the latest version of Opera Beta (31).
Answer to second post: In Opera Beta (at least in version 31) you can enable an experimental flag to display a tree at the side. Go to this page: opera://flags/?search=tree#trees-in-bookmarks, and click "Enabled", and restart opera. Caution! When you test these kind of features I recommend you to not be logged in with your normal sync account, as it may become broken in different mysterious ways.I am running 31.0.1889.16.
Re: Post 1:
When I click Ctrl+D, a confusing dialogue pops up with only one folder visible ("Unsorted bookmarks") and at the top of it, it says "Added to bookmarks" (I assume this means that the current page has been saved, but I have no idea where. Has it been saved in a folder called "Unsorted bookmarks"?).
If I click on "Unsorted bookmarks", three more (random) folders are displayed ("Bookmarks bar", "Reading list", and one random one of my own; no idea where it is stored), plus a "+New Folder" folder creator.
I have tried EVERYTHING in this dialogue, but there is NO way to navigate around my bookmark folders in order to select the correct place to save the page I’m trying to bookmark.
Whatever this dialogue is supposed to be for, it is a mystery to me. I can't get to do do anything.

Thanks, that worked. I now have a tree, which ought to be standard IMO. Indispensable for getting anything done.

RE: How do I add a bookmark to a specific folder in my bookmarks in Opera beta 30?Future releases
Also, how can you move a folder/bookmark into another folder via opera://bookmarks? Can I force opera://bookmarks to display as a tree, so I can do some bookmark maintenance? This is all very modern and great looking, but it seems I can't do very much with it. Oh for the days of good old fashioned bookmarks like in an ancient version of Firefox! I think all this progress has gotten us nowhere in terms of basic functionality.
I use my computer for work, and need to maintain and use a complex tree of bookmarks. How can I do this in the current opera://bookmarks interface?

How do I add a bookmark to a specific folder in my bookmarks in Opera beta 30?Future releases
OK, maybe I am really stupid, but how on earth do I add a bookmark to a specific folder in my bookmarks in Opera beta 30.0.
If I click Ctrl+D, Opera adds the current page, but god knows where. Is there any way to get a normal dialogue from which I could choose WHERE the page will be saved?
Michael
