Still fiddling around trying to get rid of the murk. Even tried extracting the picture, lighting it up 20% with a slight contrast and saturation boost to compensate for the overlay. Still looks like poo. When you make your own theme there is no way to turn off the overlay BTW.
That's way too sad as there were some nice themes that are all too dark now because they were made with earlier versions of Opera that don't have the overlay "feature".
I guess in some cases the type could be hard to see previously but to trash all those nice themes for the couple that fall into that category. Tragic. Sometimes developers get too caught up in developing. sigh
I downloaded Vivaldi from the original Opera guys that split off then things got different. So far I like it although it's still in beta.

RE: Theme colors got darker with 36.0.2130.32 update.Opera for Linux
Hi,
I've been asking about this very thing in the Windows forum. I'm using linux so duh, there.
I know it's in the persona.ini file and you have to set theme overlay to "false" However even if you go into "chrome://flags" and "enable" "no Theme Overlay" overlay it's still there. I tried going into the config>opera>themes>persona.ini files for the specific themes and change the and changed "Use Overlay " to "false" still no joy.
Arrrgh. How do I get rid of that dismal overlay that vexes me so?BTW, here's a link about his new "feature" (read:bug)

RE: Speed dial page theme brightness is dark. Settings page is normal.Opera for Windows
Thanks for the "chrome://flags/#no-theme-overlay" suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work for me.I tried every combination and no joy. I'm running 64-bit Linux, is there anything thing else I could try? I know just enough to be dangerous so I'm willing to fiddle with things.
I prefer bright backgrounds (old eyes) and the gray overlay kinda kills that whole thing.

RE: Speed dial page theme brightness is dark. Settings page is normal.Opera for Windows
Hi, me again. Well I've been bumping around the interwebs and found this "https://dev.opera.com/articles/working-with-theme-overlay/" guess the dark overlay isn't a bug but a feature that we all needed but didn't know it. So now if you had a nice cheery theme you liked, those days are through as this is now on by default. I guess the world needs more gloom. sigh
I have to wonder what's going to be "fixed" next. -

Hey fellas, how about fixing the dark speed dial pages some control over the rest of the colors, ect. Because it certainly is suckin' now.
Every time I see something like this I think of the old "If it's not broken don't fix it" saying. -
RE: Get rid of the semi-transparent bar at the bottom of Opera 27.0.1689.29Future releases
Thanks for getting back to me. I did the search you mentioned and read a lot of stuff, followed some links, even tried the "experimental" start page. Still have the band across the bottom.
Open for any other suggestions, just want to use Opera to search the web. Don't need to be amazed and amused every time I use it. Just want to gather information from the internet. Just not a "bells and whistles" for the sake of "bells and whistles" kind of guy.
Thanks again,

Get rid of the semi-transparent bar at the bottom of Opera 27.0.1689.29Future releases
Hello,
My Opera must have updated last night so now I have a semi-transparent bar across the bottom with "Speedial, Bookmarks, and Discover". Is there any way to make that go away I find it Apple-y annoying.
Also, is there any way to roll back updates or prevent them from happening? It kinda of knocks me off my tricycle when it changes like that out of the blue.
Thanks in advance,

RE: Latest Windows 7 Update Kills Opera Video?Opera for Windows
Hi, I noticed that I can no longer watch Netflix (Silverlight) videos since December 10th. I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with Opera 19. I've tried reloading Silverlight and clearing caches, all the usual stuff with no joy. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and have a Happy Holiday,
Jeff
