There weren't any questions. I replied to the OP about how to install the flash plugin. If it is manually installed, then, yes, one would have to keep track of updates and download the new version.

The frequency of updates to both flash and the browser is getting out of hand. If those autoupdaters are left running, then the computer is doing nothing but downloading new stuff every other day.

This here site is maintaining direct downloads of the plugin without an installer (and all the service crap that comes with it):

I just went there and copied Flash 13.0.0.182. There is a new ad on the Flash context menu now about some "games on Adobe Playpanel". Back to Flash 11.4 which is 9 MB compared to this one which is 16 MB.

I've ran a rootsupd.exe (KB931125) sometime last year, and I don't see any accessible updates to it.

I see about SP3. Well, I'm not going to reinstall my OS in order to visit a couple sites. The transaction should be between the web browser and the remote web server without involving the OS (Internet Explorer).

This is my first time on this forum. I would like to ask you if it is possible to install and use Adobe Flash Player 10.3 on Opera Browser. Iºve already install this plugin on Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and it works. The problem is I found the Opera software is fatest than Internet Explorer. I would like to use it on Opera.
It is possible to load any flash version in Opera or Opium.

You have to obtain NPSWF32*.dll and copy it into the Opera program directory.

Opera: program\plugins\NPSWF32.dll
Opium: Ver.s.i.on\plugins\NPSWF32.dll

Older Flash use less memory, but may not be enough to render very modern sites.

I noticed that I can't log into Dropbox anymore with Opium.

Is real Opera updating certificates automatically as well, because it worked, or does it have to do with relaxed settings I might have in Opera? Situations of this kind could be bypassed in the past, when the root authority is unknown (self issued certificate). Why is it different now?

Stash should be allowed to have the same context menu as on webpages. We should also be able to examine the stashed screenshot, open it in a new tab, copy or save (truly stash when needed, outside of Opium).

Losing mails is what you can expect after storing them on remote servers or 'the cloud'. Next time download them to your computer(s).

It is possible to add H.264 and MP3 support to some versions of Opera/Chromium by adding Chrome ffmpegsumo codecs. But I don't see much use for them in the web browser, because playback isn't smooth unless the system is very fast and otherwise idle. Frankly, I don't get it why the licensing matter has become so hot, because there are plenty working video players, some with streaming support, video/sound in web browser sucks in general.

When I compare the YouTube flash plugin and the HTML5 player, I would prefer Flash, as it delivers uninterruptible playback. Opera/Chromium might fix playback priority (or has alrady done so in the latest version), and play video directly linked files fine, but the YouTube player will still suck.

If you want to stream and watch YouTube or directly linked video/sound, use SMPlayer.

Google was doing somethign on their site. I had the opposite effect: regular styling in Opium, and no underline in Opera, running on the same machine. Now it's back to normal.

I've never used the dropdown list myself because the address field usually contains more entries than can be picked from comfortably (10-15), and because the arrow was too difficult to aim at. It seems added as an afterthought, as it is too close to the right edge of the text box, too small, and unlike square Windows buttons, has no clear borders. I still feel that an arrow should be on every listbox or combobox to indicate that it can be expanded. That's how it has been for years. We don't press "Down" on every field expending something to happen.

My mother does make use of the address bar history as a very limited and unsafe bookmarking. I tried to teach her to use the Star button, and placed it immediately to the right on the same toolbar, but she insists on using the dropdown arrow on the URL bar.

Lately, I've been getting an Opera internal page opera://foo.net usually right after startup if I type foo.net in the Opium address bar as a network address. It keeps the prefix hidden there, and acts as if I didn't select it for typing over.

These forums are rather fast, relatively speaking. But the use of Gravatar makes them 10 times as slow, as they could have been.

A connection to gravatar is made over Secure HTTP which introduces latency; the avatar for every user who's post is contained of the current page is requested; the forum has no knowledge about which user has one set up, and which one has not.

If I block gravatar in Urlfilter, Opera forums become much faster, but also much less readable as even the placeholder default avatar is then gone.

You would have done better relying on an existing forum engine; probably an old version of one.

BBCode shouldn't have been replaced. And while Markdown reminds of typing in plaintext in Opera M2; i intuitively type BBCode when on the web. It works on all forums almost the same way, one doesn't need to learn it. Well, worked until people like you pushed it out. How do we type [quote=Author][/quote] ? This is useful for headings of any blocks of text.

I didn't see any use of Google's DNS in Opera 19.0.1326.0 Developer for Windows. This version is not the latest. Opera used the one DNS received via DHCP.

It could be that this is a feature of the latest version, or caused by specific network settings (such as multiple DNS servers, or an unreachable one).

Could you provide some logs that demonstrate what you saw?

Maybe you can customize the Opera/Presto context menu to include the choice of launching any link in a media player? It works well for me. Described here by Tamil. You can have several choices there, and maybe also add Winamp.

Unfortunately voting is always for the most current version unless specified otherwise. Even though most software is very well capable of remaining useful years after being discontinued, its former users are quick to proclaim its "death", and the rest gladly accept this, and make it "die" by stopping releasing compatible content. If it's not a live being, as has been asserted on these forums when dismissing emotional responses, how can it die?

Just to oppose Chrome, I voted for Firefox. In version 27 it hasn't yet changed much. Chrome has a weird and suspicious attraction. I disaprove, but am not surprised that people would migrate to it.

There is software where the defaults are of my preference. I go over its settings just to add a personal touch, and can't find what to change! Those are usually open source or freeware products made by the people for the people. This means that the developers communicate in the forum with people when they have time. Opium isn't one of such products.

For example, ApexDC++, IrfanView or Total Commander, aside from it being stuck with a DOS keyboard set or in the modem era. Most settings are good by default there.

Oh I see, you mean the menu that comes down when clicking the "≡" button. (Which looks like what we had in MS-DOS programs, like dos navigator, lol ...). I can confirm that the main page of YT is extremely slow to load (before the menu is clicked even). I hadn't loaded it in a while, and was going to the site from bookmarks, such as the now mostly defunct inbox or subscriptions. Videos are about as quick as before if browsing is started from there.

I am afraid I got things confused here. I was talking about Opera/Chromium (version 15-19) for Windows. It comes with a ffmpeg decoder, which can be upgraded. The same thing doesn't apply to old Opera/Presto on either Windows or Linux. On Windows the Gstreamer codecs have been customized by Opera, and can't be replaced. There may be a way to upgrade them on Linux but I don't know how.

I'm using YouTube exlusively with Opera (real Opera) because of this extension, which captures direct links to the video data, and allows to save it or pass to a media player for comfortable viewing in full screen. No other browser allows me to do this.

The site is slow as hell on a 1.6 GHz CPU, but not so much slower than the rest of the web. It hasn't frozen for me yet. Uploading occasionally failed though.

I'm not sure what the sidebar is. I got 11 subscriptions, which generate some recommended channels, recommended videos. Playlists and history appear at the top of the page when I click my name.

Same computer system, but different users? No clue. Maybe it has a "task manager" which would reveal that a copy from a different location is being run.

If no videos play, not even VP8 or Theora, something went wrong in replacing the file or modifying Opera executable.

If Opera comes with an autoupdater, that should also be deleted or renamed, or the patch will be reverted when a new version is released.

I don't know about Linux. Only tested this with Windows. Chrome is the only build of Chromium which can play MKV/H.264/AAC. The ffmpegsumo library is a little bigger than what comes with Opium. I had to overwrite this file with the bigger version. Then also modify Opera to accept video/mp4 and audio/mpeg MIME, by sacrificing the WAV file type, which does not occur on the web. If this is not done, Opium would only play videos renamed to a known extension, like *.ogg.

The same may or may not work on the Linux version.

You have to take Chrome (which is Chromium + codecs and plugins added by Google). I have added two versions of the DLL for Windows here. The 32-1700 one is good for Opium Developer 19.0.1326.0.

The video plays fine in Opera 19 after I added the video decoder from Chrome. Chrome (Chromium) and Opera versions must match... Maybe "fine" isn't the right word, as the smoothness of playback is still lower compared to a dedicated media player.
