Goodbye Opera

I've had enough. You've just lost another user. It was bad enough that with version 15 we lost everything but just as I get everything just the way I want you have to go and F*ck things up.

First of all the bookmark manager still sucks. And the lack of options in Speed dial. At first that stupid bar at the bottom was at the top and bearly visible but then you darkened it and jammmed it at the bottom of the window.

You could set the columns at one time to 2 and make the dials small so your background theme could show through. Now you limited to 3 columns and you cannot adjust the size so what is the point of the themes anyway. Especially your own custom ones when everything is blocked by those damn dials.

Then it's the automatic updates, the real deal killer in my case. I don't use Chrome for the reason that they don't give me any easy control of the updates. I've had to restore my Opera program to many times down from version 29 to 28.

I deleted the autoupdate programs and the update task only to have that bloody thing still update on me. I don't go to about:config because I know that can trigger an update.

Now I've discovered that just going to the settings can trigger an update. Thank you for respecting me as a user. One final note I finally found a way to control the updates, I just uninstalled Opera completely.

I don't think so. Opera has given us very little control over speed dial and even less in the latest upgrade. That's why I reverted back to version 28 and disabled auto update. Maybe one day Opera will remember it's users and give us something that we want rather than what they think we should have.

You probably have to uninstall Opera 29 first. You might have to hunt down and delete any and all Opera folders on your hard drive.

It might be a issue of auto update updating the browser after opening.

When you install 28 don't open right away, instead search for and rename or delete on your hard drive any instance of a file called opera_autoupdate.exe and disable the task scheduler item. I like to use Ccleaner for this. In Ccleaner click on Tools on side menue, then start up and click on Scheduled Tasks and right click on the Opera update task - similar to: Opera scheduled Autoupdate 1400358009 Opera Software C:\Opera\launcher.exe --scheduledautoupdate

Either delete it or disable it.

Thanks for responding but I found a solution myself. It was a bit extreme but I deleted the Opera install from it's folder and copied over all the files from a backup I had saved to an external source. Then I also searched and deleted all versions of opera_autoupdate.exe that I could find and disabled the task scheduler item. I also checked Windows services but found no update options there.

Also I must remember never to use the about:opera because that will imitate a automatic update. No thanks Opera.

Remember the good old days when Opera had an offending appendage you could just right click on and delete it.

I don't know if that makes since. I'm really getting tired of Opera. Just as you get it customized the way you want the bloody thing updates and everything is changed. I thought I disabled the auto update but I must of missed something.

Here's my problem. I like to us e pictures on my background speed dial. It's hard enough to find pictures with the subject far enough to the side to see properly. I set the columns at two and made the the speed dials as small as possible.

Now I'm forced three columns and no control over the size. On top of that that bar (not sure it's name) is now on the bottom. Personally I like to get rid of it all together. I noticed that Opera automatically backs up the previous version how do I resort back to it without doing a full Windows system restore.

Sometimes blocking extensions can block something that it shouldn't. Temporally disable µBlock and see if that makes the problem go away. I use Opera with Adblock plus and I've known it to interfere occasionally with pages loading properly. The site seems to work OK from my system.

If you are downloading a file and accidentally shut down Opera, at one time you would get a warning notice that files where still downloading. That doesn't happen any more. Is there any way to re-enable this option?

Every now and then going to web sites produces a error message similar to:
The connection to www.anysite.com was interrupted by a change in the network connection.

Refreshing the page easily clears it out but still I like to know what causes this error.

Typing opera:about in the url bar give you the paths of your profile.

That being said in your case if it was mine I would just copy all the contents of my old Profile folder to the new install. Done it myself successfully a number of time in the past. No warranties implied

I just opened Opera and noticed a new button called synchronization, did I accidentally enable something or is this something else that Opera is jamming down my throat? In other words I do I get rid of it?

I noticed on my system, with Opera 27 (latest version), if I try to open a .mhtml or .html and the name of the file starts with a # then I get a list of directories. If the # is any where else in the name, no matter if it's .mhtml or .html it will not open at all. The error is "This web page not found", I know it's a long shot but try renaming one of the files and see what happens. I also have 12.16 installed all files open normally in that one.

Go to settings, you might have to check the option to show advanced settings, and uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available (requires Opera restart)" - restart Opera. If it's already unchecked, check it and restart.

Have you tried a third party download manager like FlashGet? There is also an extension for this one for Opera. I haven't used a download manager in a long time but back in the good old dial-up Internet days, they where a god send.

I have Opera 26 and when I go to the image it automatically resizes to fit the screen. When I run my mouse over it my cursor turns into a magnifying glass with a plus sign in it. If I click on it the picture automatically zooms into full size, clicking again returns it to normal yet I don't have any extensions installed to do this.

Two things come to mind. Right click on Opera shortcut (probably won't work on task bar shortcuts), then click on shortcut tab and look at the run box. Mine is set on Normal windows and opens OK. Try switch it to Maximized and see if that helps.

Option number two - if you have Ccleaner on your system open it up - you'll see to columns Windows and Applications - go to the bottom of the Windows section to the advanced section and check the option "Windows Size/Location cache" - then Run cleaner.
