Don't want to confuse things, but you might want to make sure which trash folder they have gone to. If they are only in Opera Mail's trash file on the computer then they will stay there. But if they are also in gmail's IMAP synchronised trash folder then I think you need to watch out because gmail normally deletes whatever is in the trash after two weeks. It would be much better to undelete them as suggested.
