So clearly, the issue is Opera querying the existence of a touchscreen and not getting the right info from Win10.
Hopefully this is only an issue with hybrids like my Yoga, because otherwise I can't imagine people on tablets will keep using Opera very long 
Mmh, this appears to be dpi dependant.
I run a 1920x1080 screen, but with 150% scaling and I get the one story per page crap. If I go to 100%, I get the full shebang.
But no matter what, that left bar is almost constantly empty. Just look at it! 50% of it is just blank space. What a waste. And of course we can't just resize it... sigh
Whatever happened to Opera where you could change and customize everything T_T

I didn't install or uninstall anything at all. The only thing that's happened is my computer went into hibernation.
Now I'm back and no more interaction.
Can anybody at least tell me if anyone is looking at this?

Is there another thread I could've posted to? Because I most certainly looked my issue in the forum before posting, but found nothing.
As it stands, I absolutely cannot use Opera in tablet mode. Nothing works.
I'm on Opera 30.0.1835.125 Stable, to be exact.
Also, fun thing, it says that the operating system is "Windows 8.1 64 bit (WoW64)"
So I switched to Windows 10 yesterday and ever since, no more touch screen interaction with Opera 30!
For the life of me, I think I still had some touch screen functionality when I started Win10, but today, nothing. No scrolling, no zoom in or out, not even clicking on links or interface buttons!
Anything in the client windows seems to have gone dead (so I can close/min/max the window and drag it around, but Opera menu and tabs don't do anything).
For info I'm on a Yoga 2, Win 10 64bit (whatever latest build this is), Opera 30 (latest).
Any ideas? It's not vitally important since I'm on a hybrid, but it makes Opera 100% useless in tablet mode! 
No, I have that option unchecked.
But that's a moot point because that very option seems to only ever be used for cases where the linked content can't be opened in the browser, like a ZIP or EXE or something like that.
But a JPEG actually gets opened in the browser, if you click on a link to one. Just like an HTML page, for instance.
Alt+click on a link to a webpage and it gets saved (with the option unchecked).
And no, I'm not gonna check the option. The whole point is I wanted a convenient way to save multiple files on a page and I found one! Right here in Opera, no need for an extension!
BUT for some reason, that particular feature highlights the fact that Opera handles multiple downloads in an extremely poor fashion : it seems to open as many connections as possible, as you keep clicking. And then when you reach some random limit, it just crashes.
An elegant solution would be to simply have a max limit on concurrent donwloads and simply queue whatever got clicked, but apparently, that was too complex to implement by default... yes, I'm being sarcastic.
I have "Classic Images" installed, but it does not have anything to do with Alt+Click (I disabled it anyway, and it didn't prevent the crashes or stop me from using Alt+Click).
Another hint that maybe this functionality is a bit broken is that half the time, I will end up with the Opera menu appearing as if I had clicked Alt on its own.
Also just to be clear : Alt+click allows me to 'Save linked content to Downloads folder'. A wonderful bit of convenience which is oddly lacking from the context menu.
So on the same day I discovered this wonderfully useful function, I also discovered that for some reason, Opera does NOT like saving multiple files at once.
I haven't quite grasped what exactly causes the crash, but it occurs usually if I alt+click too many files in a row without letting them complete.
So typically, if I'm saving pictures in a gallery, I'll alt+click four or so, then wait, then another four, etc.
If I just alt+click without stopping, I'll invariably crash to desktop.
(not sure if this is the best place for a bug report, so let me know if there is a better one)

Oh and just in case you still don't understand : "^ type it in the address bar" actually meant "look at the message above in the thread". The ^ represents a little arrow pointing upwards.
That being said, I agree the new design is awful and please can we get back to the previous clean one. Don't see a flag for that, though.

I actually really liked the design, even though it did lack control (having an ugly ass URL displayed was a bit silly, for example). Now it's back to ye olde clusterfuck of a mess once more 
I guess this should be a good motivation to look at the extensions' documentation.
So I just got a new laptop with 8.1 and the first thing I do is install a new browser.
But it appears Opera does not play nice with 8.1 (I'm on 8.1 64bit, Opera 26.0 Stable)
as the system close button (Red X in the top right of your window) does not work.
Last boot, it was all three buttons that were unresponsive (Minimize, Maximize/Restore and Close) despite being enabled.
Then it worked all fine. Then I restarted Opera and now I can't close at all.
The computer is a Yoga 2, so I also wonder if the touchscreen has an influence?
Anyway, it's not like I actually close the browser that often, but it's just so damn amateurish!
I'm a bit of a fan of the Metro look, but I gotta say the functionality is a bit poor on that one.
Still, it's better than out of date screenshots, so I don't mind so much. I liked the icon extension that used a website's favicon.ico but I guess we'll have to wait for something stable.
My main beef with this is that it's SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooowwwww.
How the hell does it take almost a minute to load a start page with no thumbnails and just text?
To be fair, I didn't manage to replicate my problem exactly, but it was happening like you are showing for a week every day and since I turned Opera Turbo off, never.
I certainly would love to know what the problem actually is!
Because that's the new philosophy.
I think the fact they released a browser for Mac is the most significant indicator of their new direction...
In my case, an honest assessment of my usage habits made the transition slightly less hectic, but... yeah. Not cool.
That was one of the first thing I looked up because I extensively use keyboard shortcuts for accented characters and guess what? Apparently you can't do custom shortcuts anymore! I looked it up and Chrome doesn't allow that sort of things...
So you only get the built-in shortcuts (list is in the Help) and that's it. Welcome to the wonderful world of dumbing things down 
As for the gap, go to the browser's settings, enable the Advanced settings and click the "Disable tab bar's top spacing when browser window is maximised".

Opera 22 here.
I used to be able to delete suggestions from the suggestion list that appears when you start typing URLs in the address bar. I can't anymore. I assumed that really nifty functionality had disappeared, like so many others, because Opera had "found a better way" to do it or something like it.
I assumed maybe it only took those suggestions from the History.
So I went to the History and deleted the URLs I didn't want popping up. Except they still do...
Why is it annoying? Because I mistyped and typed [Enter] before I noticed and now that freaking WRONG URL keeps popping up first in the Autocomplete!
In Opera (the real one), I used to simply hover my mouse over the line containing the URL in question, and a little cross would appear at the end of the line to make it disappear from there.
How do I do this?
Must I wait for a special extension just to regain all the nice little touches that made Opera the great browser that it used to be?
