I was using opera mini beta on my phone, opera android beta on my nexus 7 and opera PC beta on windows.
But the opera mini beta on my phone did something weird and morphed into a non-beta product when I updated it.

That in itself isn't an issue, as it's just like the beta was, but it doesn't show up as a device for sharing recent tabs etc.. So I can't see the tabs that I had on my phone when I use opera on my tablet/pc.
I'm assuming that's an issue with it being non-beta. Is that right?

So, does anyone know if I uninstall opera mini and then install opera mini beta, will I be able to see recent tabs on other devices? And is there any way to get my settings from opera mini into opera mini beta? (passwords, history, open tabs, etc..)

Ok. You were right.
Disabling HTTPS scanning in the avast protection settings worked, but that seems to apply to all accounts on the PC.

My solution was to put exceptions for *.youtube.com and *.googlevideo.com into avast.
Hopefully that's a more secure solution. I guess.

though if you are getting similar errors on lots of sites then it might not be a good idea to set up exclusions for all f them.

I have avast, so I'll check that out.
Not sure I want to start disabling antivirus though. maybe we should try posting on the avast forum as well and see if we can get it fixed.

Microsoft Family Safety on Kids account

I've been using Opera and Microsoft Family safety on my kid's account without problems, but suddenly I can't access sites like youtube because I get an SSL error. If I turn off Family Safety then it works ok. But I don't want to turn it off because it's on my kid's account.

I haven't changed any settings, and it worked fine until about a week ago.
I don't know if MS have changed something in how Family Safety works, or if Opera or Chrome have changed something.
It'd be really useful if it could be fixed though! I have irate kids!

(I read somewhere that Family Safety has to use it's own certificates to get around HTTPS encryption, and that those are trusted by default in IE, but not in chrome/firefox. I wonder if it's to do with that. I'm not really sure about how certificates work though).

PS/ while I'm here: the way opera updates is rather annoying because it keeps making new folders and the location of opera keeps changing, so things like Family Safety (and also spybot) lose track of it and it keeps getting blocked after each update until I re-allow it).

Interesting. This also allows you to add the bookmarks to your speed dial - opera mini style.

My "Recent tabs" menu doesn't show anything from before the browser was closed. Is that how it's supposed to work? In chrome it shows your previous set of tabs so you can restore them all after restarting the browser.

I prefer the older speed dial with the bigger more illustrative icons (the current default). But is there a way to remove the redundant google box? Because with 3 rows of speed dial buttons on a 1440 x 900 display the bottom ones are a bit off the bottom of the screen.

Re:sync. Good to see current tabs will be arriving soon. It'd be nice to have a way to exclude some folders from sync. For folders with private info such as banking. It'd also be nice to have a way of deleting your synced bookmarks without having to delete your whole opera account.

I prefer the original speed dial.
I tried the new version and wasn't so keen, so I went back to the original.

There isn't really a big difference, so I'm not clear what benefits the new (disabled) version was supposed to have.

Nice. I switched to opera beta a short while back and I'm really liking it. Looks lovely and mostly a pleasure to use.

A few minor suggestions:

When opening the bookmarks view it'd be great if the focus went to the bookmark search box.
I know some others aren't keen on the new style of bookmarks, but I actually really like it. The live search feature with big boxes is great.. so it's a shame i have to click on the search box each time.

When selecting a text URL and right clicking and choosing "Go to Web Address" it'd be great if it opened in a new tab. Most other things like that seem to open in a new tab (and i think chrome and firefox do to), but opera overwrites my existing tab.

When entering text in the location bar, is there a way to cycle through the different search engines using the keyboard?

Is there any way to reorder the extensions/icons to the right of the location bar?

Not sure I like having the synchronize icon there on the right of the location bar, I already have too many icons there.

For those of us using the bookmarks bar, it'd be nice to have a "all bookmarks" button that goes to the bookmarks page.

For bookmark management, things like "select all" and copy/paste aren't really obvious. The usual keyboard shortcuts work, but maybe there should be some buttons.

The Recent Tabs menu item seems to only show tabs from this session, is that right? Chrome shows ones from previous sessions too.

Yes, that looks much better graphically. Bit worried that the file size has more than doubled from 1.2Mb to 2.6Mb though. I hope the memory usage hasn't also doubled.

It's such a small specific thing that it never occurred to me that there would be an option for it. The fact the option exists implies they're aware of the issue. Strange that it's an option not a fix.

NB/ If anyone else is reading this, you need to turn on advanced settings at the bottom of the settings screen to make that option visible.

I'm close to switching over to Opera now that the beta can import my bookmarks, but I've discovered one INCREDIBLY ANNOYING thing. The tabs don't reach all the way to the top of the screen!
So EVERY TIME I try to click a tab it doesn't register.
This seems to break basic UI rules that have been around for decades. When making mouse hotspots you want to make them as big as possible so users can easily hit them, or butt them up against the edge of the screen (which makes them easier to hit and therefore effectively bigger)

I don't mind the theme style, I actually quite like it. I wouldn't mind if the tabs kept their current LOOK of having a 2 pixel line above them.. but the tab hotspot should extend to the top of the screen.

It sounds like such a tiny thing, but it'd be such a huge improvement if you could fix it!
