After the last update the extension is unusable primarily because the detailed settings are no longer available... There are many sites that don't work if one of the trackers is blocked, and you have to be able to allow only that specific tracker to run on that specific site... Now you cannot allow/block specific trackers on specific sites anymore... I also would like to allow Google's trackers and ads everywhere, but again that is no longer configurable...

RE: Opera browser becomes available in Microsoft Store on WindowsBlogs
@leocg said in Opera browser becomes available in Microsoft Store on Windows:
@eliotcougar It was not a political reason, it was removed because it turned into something useless.
Not Political Secure Preferences:
"vpn":{"blacklisted_locations":["cn","ru"],"last_established_location":"RU"}Previously, I've been able to edit this file to reenable VPN, but Opera started to resist that as soon as that method became well-known...

Snooze inactive tabs exceptions list neededOpera for computers
The feature itself is great, and it allows us to keep a lot of tabs open for later use without closing them. However, there is an annoying side effect that is severe enough to make me disable that feature for now:
I usually have GMail, and several messengers open, such as Hangouts and Duo... When you don't activate their tabs for a while, they snooze, and you won't receive any message notifications, or incoming calls, from them... It breaks any web app that has to be active in the background during normal operation...
There has to be a configurable exception list for such pages... It can be preloaded with known messenger and email services... Ideally, there should be an option when you right-click a tab - "Never snooze tab", to quickly add it to the list... -
RE: GhosteryOpera add-ons
@skarimdeus It's an issue with the new version of Opera... It will probably be fixed eventually... In the meantime you can use this workaround:
Enable Developer mode in Extensions
Look for the extension ID in the extension info... Looks like bbkekonodcdmedgffkkbgmnnekbainbg or something similar...
Click on "Load unpacked"
Navigate to where the extension is stored in the profile: C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Next\Default\Extensions[Extension ID]\That will install the current version of the extension in Developer mode, without security checks... The security checks is what is probably broken in the recent version of Opera since it fails to generate hashes in the extension's metadata folder... The extension won't autoupdate, but at least it will work while we wait for the fix...

RE: Opera 109.0.5097.24 beta updateBlogs
@eliotcougar: Looks like the problem is related to the extensions being Manifest v2 type... I've managed to force the extensions into a working state by switching to the Developer Mode, then Load Unpacked, and pointing it to the folder where Opera stores the extension in question: C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Next\Default\Extensions
You need to navigate inside the folder of the extension where its manifest.json is located... -
RE: Opera browsers in 2020, what’s next?Blogs
But what about all those egregious micro-lending Opera apps you've released in third world countries?.. It's hard to imagine that 300+% interest rates on loans would be good to those impoverished people in Africa and South America...

How do I disable the stupid Aria icon in every text field?.. I've disabled all the AI settings, but it still shows everywhere, sometimes conflicting with other UI elements on some websites…

RE: Opera 109Blogs
@kmielczarczyk: I have 109.0.5097.35, but all the extensions installed from Chrome Web Store are still being reported as corrupted instantly after installation... Also, the extension's _metadata folder is empty… If I understand correctly, it should be populated with verified_contents.json and computed_hashes.json files when it is installed… And since they are missing, Opera says the extension is corrupted, because it cannot check whether it's corrupted or not…

RE: Opera 109.0.5097.24 beta updateBlogs
@eliotcougar: Hmmm... My previous assumption is probably incorrect... One of the failed extension is Manifest version 3... Then, maybe, the problem is with calculating hashes when an extension is installed and/or verified??? Because when I try to install any new extension from the Chrome Web Store, the extension's _metadata\computed_hashes.json and _metadata\verified_contents.json files are not created as they should…

RE: Why you should use a non-custodial wallet for your crypto assetsBlogs
Opera wallet pretends to be non-custodial, but it isn't... Just recently I saw a notification in the browser that due to sanctions against Russia the wallet will be disabled, and I have 24 hours to take my money from it... I saw the notification too late - the wallet already didn't work... My money is gone... Don't be fooled by the 12 words they give you to make it look like you control your keys - you don't... Just like that, Opera can disable any feature based on your location, like they previously did with Opera VPN... I have my 12 words recovery, but they are useless because there is nowhere to enter them...
