I have tried the usual ways to make Opera my drfault browswe on Win 7, but no joy

I have tried-:

1. Opera > Settings > Default Browser > Make Default

2. Windows Start Button > Control Panel > Default Programs >

   Opera does not appear in Set your default programs list

Each time I start Opera, a prompt bar appears asking to make it default browser.
I select yes, on restarting Opera, same request.
If I select the "X", on restarting Opera, same request.
( Going around in circles, driving me mad)

The same problems exist for Vivaldi, but not firefox or Microsoft Edge.

I am using Opera v82.0.4227.43

Any help appreciated.

All was working fine until update to v70.0.3728.178. this morning.

I have just spend the last two hours reconfiguring Opera,

Restarted Opera, and top my horror, Everything restored to default.

Doesn't happen with Firefox or Vivaldi.

Opera just updated to v70.0.3728.178.
My Speed Dial page was reset to default Speed Dial Page. WHY ?
Extensions disappeared. WHY ??
Passwords not autofill. WHY ??

This happened with update to v65.0.3467.78.

It is becoming tiresome to reinstall / reconfigure everything when Opera updates.......................

Leave Block Trackers enabled and add
https://mail.yahoo.com/
to Exceptions

Hi,

Opera has updated a few times since problems arose.
It is now at v66.0.3515.44.

All is well, bookmarks, extensions, & speed dial all intact.
Am sticking with Opera, I did not want to move to another browser.

Opera updated to Version:66.0.3515.27.

Speed Dial Reset.
Have to redo again

This is getting dam tiresome
Extensions gone walkabout again

Every update seems to reset everything.......................

I'm getting peed off with this.
I may go back to Firefox

Why did these problems occur?

You also might want to check your system for malware and viruses etc. If something tampered with Opera's files, it could cause Opera to not use them and reset them.

Malwarebytes all OK

Now I will have to spend hours getting Opera back to the state is was in before any update.

Why ?
I now have to reconfigure.
