Just to confirm, are you using Windows 7 or 8.1? If so, did you try downgrading Opera 95 to the previous version, then performing your blocking tasks? Also, did you flush your DNS then restart Opera after the changes?

Regardless, upgrading to Windows 10 is your best bet. I know, painful, but worth it.

@magma500 I've done so already due to this issue. I've blocked opera in hosts, renamed autoupdate, disabled opera auto update tasks in task manager and all other suggested 'fixes' and as a last resort even re-installed opera to no avail...still the red box after a short while..

and the red box has appeared once again...looks like i'll be moving to another browser...it was good while it lasted....

@sunnydays99 I have just re-installed from the link given. I will report back how it goes after testing for a short while

@leocg I have scrolled down the page and downloaded the opera 95 x64 offline installer. I will give it a try. I presume by installing this and writing over the version i have installed already, it will not overwrite my settings / bookmarks & speed dials?

I had the red box at the top left appear yesterday too saying security update, and as original poster, downloaded from the link when security update is clicked. It does not install on win 7 x64. I'm not too fussed about the security update, but how to stop it prompting there is an update and removing the red box at top left?

I had to enable directwrite and it's working fine with Thai fonts now....thank you leocg
