@l33t4opera I suspect the cause of the problem must lie within my profile. I didn't have time to investigate this before the new version (84.0.4267.0) was released though I had some suspicions because the previous version that I first reported the problem with was fine on a different device.
When I ran the update to 84.0.4267.0 I experienced the same repeat-crashing behaviour.
I then closed Opera Developer, removed the two "Opera Developer" folders below and restarted Opera. Though of course it comes up completely un-customised, it came up and stayed up. So, problem must be in the profile.

[Just for an aside...]
Luckily for me, I have all versions of Opera installed on my machine alongside each other along with most major browsers. They all have their niche roles to play though Opera Developer has been my daily-driver for the bulk of my browsing. I switched to Opera GX over the past week ... not too painful since I had all the same plugins in each Opera installed already. Bookmarks sync between Opera browsers via Opera Sync. Passwords via a password manager. The main thing I lost was that I had not exported the cookie/javascript permission rules in the addon I use so each site I visited this past week was back to zero Javascript running until I advised which scripts were allowed and which were blocked.
I can probably automate a sync on that in the future between browsers. I'm hoping the addon uses the same format across all platforms because I use the same addon in all Chrome browsers and Firefox, .,.. it's been in the back of my mind for while to look into doing that anyway. Will have to look into where the addon saves that data to. Might have to wait until the New Year though... things are getting busy for some reason just now!
Thanks for following up with me. Will transition most of my preferences back to 'Developer' in due course. Back to normal soon!
