Is there a good addon side panel for Opera. What I mean by "good" is one that behaves like an Opera panel, not like a Firefox bookmark panel. I have my panel in Opera 12 set to toggle open and closed by clicking on the left edge, and it's set to show bookmarks, downloads, and history. Firefox has an addon called All-In-One Side Bar that can do this, but I can't find a Chrome equivalent to add to Opera.

No problem. In that case, I'll add this.

My fresh install was the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit version I had been using. I installed the 64 bit into the default 64 bit install folders, so it would not overwrite my 32 bit version. That way I could compare my settings between the two of them to help me set up the buttons and skins the way I like. Then I copied files that handle bookmarks, wands, and speed dial directly from the 32 bit to the 64 bit. I'd post the file names, but because I'm not sure I did it exactly right, I'll leave that out. All I can say is after some fumbling around, it worked.

I started to install Opera 23.x. It defaulted to C:\Program Files (x86). But I canceled because I was surprised by this. And now I have some questions.

Is there more than one type of Opera 23.X? What I mean is, Opera 12.x has variations such as 32 bit, 64 bit, International, and English US. From the way this install started, it looked like Opera 23.x is only 32 bit and unspecified English version.

Can someone clarify this?

I did a fresh install.

And, I also noticed that I had installed the International version before when I should have installed the English (US) version. I don't know if that made a difference, though, because the problem didn't show up right away.

Thanks for all the info. I think I will try a fresh install of 64 bit version 12 separate from the 32 bit version.

But I have another question. My copy of Opera puts its data into AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera. And the program files in Program Files (x86).

Now, I assume the 64 bit version will install into Program Files that does not have "x86" in it's name. But where does it put the data. It can't go in AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera, because then it would collide with what I already have. What does it do? I'd like to know in advance to I can watch for how this is going.

I've been having problems with Opera 12.17 font encoding that nobody else seems to be having. And no solutions in sight. So it's time to take more drastic actions.

1. The easiest thing to try would be move from 32 bit to 64 bit. See if that shakes the problem out. Can I install 64 bit on top of 32 bit, or do I have to remove 32 bit first.

2. Is there any reason not to use the 64 bit version? Does it understand the 32 bit book mark file?

Is it possible to have Opera 12.17 and version 23 installed in different folders on the same computer, including different appdata folders?

I forgot to actually say that I'm still having the problem. That's why I'm asking about downgrading.
