Mh, even if it is great that the old Presto (and only Opera I still use - and because of M2 being my main email client) is still updated.. speaking as one of the former myopera forums D&D participants :insane: :braindead: and one who likes conspiracy theories from an intellectual PoV but doesn't take 'em serious -> Anyone considered that this Presto update just came after Opera was sold to some "asian" company (considered that I got the headlines right and the deal was made)??? So a Presto Update after that? Anyone hearing the voices in his back of his mind whispering "Trojan.... Censorship... Big Brother.... NSA... (Oops, wrong Country).... Backdoor...." ???

No Really, I am glad that Presto is still updated - but the timing is a bit... well, it is an open invitation to said "conspiracy theories"....

P.S.: And no *NIX Update... well, I hear in my mind "Prime Targets.... Easy Stuff...".... Oops, would we be targeting the wrong community and be revealed too soon with *NixPeople? 1st) can anyone explain the problem to me? As rseiler I don't see any problems with google (the search engine) and using O12.17x64 (Be it with g <search term> in the address bar, the search with <google> field, googles website or via marked term->menu->search with->google - way of search shouldn't make any difference, but wanted to mention it just in case)

2nd) rseiler - and why a .dll for that? Shouldn't opera:config->user prefs->custom user agent be enough for that if one really wanted to exclude the mentioning of opera from the masked agents or to identify as an up2date browser?

pa421: This relates to Windows? Better to say Filesystem, or? As you can even frustrate the average win user if you save webpages under opera presto under linux on an ntfs filesystem where the names contains illegitimate characters for ntfs - under windows you cannot access those files, you cannot delete them, etc. (whilst, even if they are out of specs for ntfs, ubu has no problems in not only writing them, but also in accessing 'em again) ... well, it is always neat to see how people react to such files if I forgot to rename them before handing them over to a pure windows user
Now I have to remember that next time I have the time I shall see what happens if I write a >255characters filename under *nix to an ntfs filesystem...

Which is the best - haven't I answered that within the early posts - if not I must have mixed that up with some posts of mine within either one of the refuge forums of/for the old myopera community...
I am using 12.17 x64 (as I don't have any problems with it), so apparently thats the best for me at the moment - apart from that (Using Opera since 6) sometimes I miss the MDI/SDI Option. But the Version I remember most is (and here's the handicap I don't remember the Versionnumber) the one that was ADware if no license where purchased and though I had bought it, whenever I wasn't working on my main computer I enjoyed the small banners of adverts - in fact one of the best context sensitive AD Systems I have ever encountered - In most cases where I was searching for something they even where helpful in refining the search terms or even came up with something useful. I really enjoyed and miss 'em from time to time.

leocg: I forgot to mention that your cite I was using was meant by me as an intro to my reasons for the features I am using, so the following "it really sucks by now flame" in my post wasn't directed vs. you but just in general as a complain vs. all those who highjack Presto Threats with their Chromium BlaBla....

In fact i realized that many Presto features weren't so essential, at least for me, and were more to impress others than to be useful to majority of users imho.

Well, sadly this thread has turned into another OhOldGeeksYouShouldUnderstandByNowThatNowdaysMobile/Tabloid/Win8+Youngsters aren'tDesktopUsers(!)anymoreAndNoOneWantsToKnowWhatWorkRelatedBrowsingNeedsComparedToCasualLeasureSuitSkiming Rant vs. Presto since early posts (title indicates everything beyond O12.17 is off-topic)...

But at the moment (and since some days) I am actually researching material for my diploma + having open a lot of python module manuals, lotsa stackexchange and similar help forums, etc. and without Notes, without Sessions, without Site Preferences and Panels like Links together with tab-stacking That would be a lot more hell then the PITA it already is!
Without Presto I am not sure how I would handle all this multi-tasking, sorting, etc.
And the real sad factor is, that there is no real alternative to Presto so far (Otter or Fifth may reach that in some time to come, but so far...)
Oh I missed to include that my customized UI is full of FavIcons[Bookmarks]/SearchFields/etc. - so that I can open the most visited sites with just a click on the icon, etc. (Yeah Boys, since Amiga Times I am also one of those users who are really organizing their desktop icons and are utilizing them to fasten their workflow (like drop-target .bats and similiar besides simple shortcuts)

BTW. now that I think about it - do you have any Extentions enabled? If I remember it right there where within the old myopera community forums some Posts about certain extentions causing such a problem as you are (non-)describing in general just as "can't access youtube" (If you have any extention at all, thats another reason to try a clean/unmodified portable install)...

But As Said, my Opera12.17 identifies to youtube with: "Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.17" and I have no problems with it...

And to get away with OS Type/Version itself/etc. - Most Support Forums I know have a sub-forum for "legacy-products"/"older versions <app_name>" or something similar (catch all type of subforum). And yes, I think that it could at least soften the Presto/Chropera battles in valid support (user2user) requests (*1), as the "other population of Opera Users" could simply ignore such a forum (if they step away from trolling).

I am not having such issues with Opera12 on Windows7 or Ubuntu14 (Both running latest 64bit Opera Presto) - Besides the HTML5 vs. Flash Resolution "Feature" the site can be accessed by me on both systems. As it shouldn't mess up with your current install, maybe you can do a plain "USB/Portable (Installer Option)" Install for O12.17 and report what it is you actually get when opening the youtube url (if the problem persists)?
