I could not find out how to create a sub folder
When inside a folder either click the new folder icon near the top of the page or right click an empty spot inside the folder and click 'New folder'.

r0bert0-b, this is exactly how I did it, and it works perfectly. What many bookmark complainers don't understand it that with that Bookmarks folder on the Bookmark bar, you can add a new bookmark of a page that Opera is displaying into any sub-folder (there is an "+ Add page at the top of EVERY folder/sub-folder you have) you have clicked on and it will be placed at the bottom of that folder, then if you want to put it higher up within that folder, all you have to do is click and hold it and move it where you want.
If you want to move/copy bookmarks or folders, you simply go into the "'Bookmarks' [the Ctrl/shift/B one]" and do what you wish. Actually though a little arcane, once you get the hang of it, it's actually easier than O12.17, because in O12.17 in order to add a bookmark, you also added it to the "Bookmarks" drop-down box, but then you HAD to open the Bookmarks manager and find that newly added bookmark and THEN move it where you wanted within that folder. In O29, that ALL can be done without opening the Bookmark manager in O29 ('Bookmarks' [the Ctrl/shift/B one])
I'm learning, each new iteration of New Opera seems easier and better, and the BIG plus, almost ALL page load quickly, and all videos and photos, much unlike how now O12.17 is almost non-operative.

bbildman, thanks for your comments and further suggestions.
About dragging and dropping within any folder, I'm lazy, I just right-click on any folder and choose 'sort alphabetically' which also brings all the folders to the head of the list.About Opera, I agree. The only thing preventing my move to the new one was stubbornness and the bookmark thing, but after spending a few minutes to sort that out I'm happy with Opera 29. And I did like the integrated mail in previous Operas, but now use the Opera Mail app and let it just sit in the background.
The new Opera really is quite good.Win 8.1, Op 29.0.1795.47

r0bert0-b, I believe I will always have O12.17 installed as a fall-back, and use O29 for most of my browsing.

I am the opposite, 12.17 is still my main browser and new opera is backup in case a site won't behave properly. For me I would lose more than I would gain by switching to new opera. My reasons:
-
Bookmarks, I like it as a row of icons on the right of my screen not taking up valuable space vertically, so I can have only two toolbars: Tabs and Address bar. I have no real use for speed dial
-
Fit to width, many times I like to browse with the screen far away, so I make it as big as I want with the slider zoom thing and then hit the fit to width button if I need to
-
The sidebar, panel whatever with the little hidden arrow to toggle it. I really like it
-
The ability to edit menus. Since I discovered it was possible and learned how to do it I can't live without that that any more. I removed or moved down the stuff I don't need and replaced those items with useful functions. For example, just to right click and have all the history for that tab is magical.
-
Progress bar popup at the bottom

Read that patch notes for Opera 30 Beta. Changes are coming.

Good to hear. Seems like they are working hard to bring back some of the features we miss. Lets see what they end up with
