I think you might be experiencing a different problem (although you can never be sure), can you ask on the Windows forum? You might get more help there.

No VPN or Adium here
Can you try this:
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
Right after doing this, restart or start Opera. Does it make a difference? If not, are there any messages in your Console from discoveryd after doing the restart?
It seems you have a system that was upgraded from 10.9 to 10.10. It also seems like your system still has mDNSresponder running or some files left behind (this was replaced by discoveryd in 10.10).

Quit Opera, run the command, thats what happend. It ist not making a huge difference, it's a little better, maybe a few milliseconds. But not as fast as compared to Opera 28.

I use opera as my main browser on mac, because safar sometimes doesnt load some content, i was very pleased the way opera was functioning, i have it installed in all my devices even on android, but the last version really went wrong somehow, the 28 version is perfect in speed battery usage and all, another thing is that the autoupdate feature should be removed or give the user a chance to disable it.
I hope these things could be fix it in the next updates because i really like your software.
Keep it up.

@hummerds, can you see if you have these files somewhere on your system:
com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper.plist
If you do, could you try moving them to somewhere where the system won't try reading them (eg. just a new directory you create somewhere) and restart your system to see if it makes a difference?

Nope, can't find dem anywhere.
Looked in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons and everywhere, nothing.Finder Search (with hidden files) turned up nothing, too.

I have a similar issue with Opera 29 that didn't exist in Opera 28. There is nothing in the console messages and I do not have mDNS running, only discoveryd even though this Mac was upgraded from 10..9 to 10.10 and is currently running a beta of 10.10.4, but I had this issue under 10.10.3 public release as well. It is a late 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina with 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, quad core 2.6GHz i7 and Nvidia GeForce GT 750M with 2GB of RAM. I couldn't use QuickTime to make a video as it would not display the spinning color wheel in the video, so it had to be recorded externally. The CPU was 80% or higher for the idle process and the RAM was had around 6GB free and no swap was used.
Here is a video of the spinning wheel:

lanbrown I have the same model Mac, I sometimes see slow downs (I did a separate bug report for a GPU process bug in O 29), I also upgraded from 10.9 to 10.10
I looked in both preference folders for the mDNS .plist files and found none
Do you have a lot of windows open for Opera? I some times see when a page says it is loaded but I don't see the content (it is all white no page content is shown at all) for another few minutes
Why Open the Web?
Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users.
When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices.
However, many devices are excluded access to Web content. -

Chas4,
I might have around 25 to 30. I have another MacBook Pro that was one generation prior and I have 40 to 50 tabs and I do not see this issue. Both machines have the same upgrades performed on them.

Try closing a few windows
Does the older generation Mac have a Nvidia GPU?

Note @chas4 said windows, not tabs, since the problem he's seeing is related to having many windows open at the same time. I do not expect you to have the same problem as him with 'just' many tabs open.
For some of you here: there's a bug in the Apple Dock we're investigating which causes OS X to get very slow if there are any minimized Opera windows. We're trying to find a workaround for it, but in any case check if you have any minimized Opera windows that could have an effect on what you're seeing.

I do have a lot of windows minimized to the Dock (8 right now & no slow down, but sometimes it is slower with many more)
