These side tabs are tight! But why can´t I have them on the right side 😞

i think i could love vertical tabs, if only i can put them on the right side of the screen, and maybe also have a button that allow me to switch between vertical and orizontal way. at the actual state of things i will keep use the orizontal way, but it's promising

            Chrome does it better!

            1. More copmact (less space among tabs).
            2. You can see if a tab group is collapsed or expanded (right-side arrow icon on a tab-group bar. Critical! Why in Opera there is the number instead, and we can't tell the collapse-status???
            3. We can clearly see which tabs are in a group - there is a vertical line on the left side. Opera has shaded color below the group - not that clear, combined with 4):
            4. The active tab color is hard to distinguish from the shaded colors of in-group tabs.
            5. The wonderful group buttons in the favourites bar, which can jump to other Chrome windows.
            6. The last "New tab" tab is just "+", Opera "New tab" text looks like a tab name - misclickable.

              1. Emoji support is also essential for vertical tabs to make it easier to locate the specific tab you need.
              2. When switching to vertical tabs, the ability to move the browser window disappears completely; there is simply no space at the top to grab the window with the mouse and drag it.
              3. It is high time to implement keyboard shortcuts (customizable by the user) for navigating to the tab on the right/left (or up/down) without using the mouse. Why aren't such hotkeys available in the browser yet?
              4. A keyboard shortcut is also needed to quickly switch between horizontal and vertical tab layouts.

@17misha I think keyboard shortcuts are already implemented, have been for a long time. Hold OPT+CMD+ArrowKey and it will traverse. Similar on Windows too.

@romasio: Unfortunately, there are no such key combinations for Windows; I’ve tried to find them many times, but they simply don’t exist.

There are Ctrl + Tab and Ctrl + Shift + Tab, but they switch between active tabs rather than cycling through all of them in order, so they aren't useful. Plus, an awkward switching interface pops up; with over 100 tabs open, that makes it very inconvenient.

@17misha: I also don't like the default behavior of ctrl-tab and ctrl-shift-tab, but there is a keybinds section in Opera, though it's super easy to miss. In settings, go to Features, then scroll all the way down. The very last option is "Configure shortcuts." When you click that, you'll probably be scrolled down the page of keyboard shortcuts a bit - scroll back to the top of the list. There's a special "Search shortcuts" field where you can find things easier. What you're looking for is "Switch right through tabs" and "Swith left through tabs" - set these to ctrl-tab and ctrl-shift-tab. You may need to unbind the existing keybind for those - honestly, it's been so long since I set it, I don't recall if I needed to do that first. But now you can press ctrl-tab and move to the tab to the right, none of this last tab stuff. There's a few other annoyances I turn off in there as well. Hope that helps!

@dowiew: The question is: if Chrome does it better, what the hell are you doing here?

@vuedx I'm crying disappointed here! Long-term Opera user with the native "Vertical Tabs" extension with so compact tab layout, just can't live with the stupid vertical island view. Is it the hell that strange to yell here?
