Extra character “.O.” added to end of bullet items when auto-translate is set to Portuguese

I’m using Opera on a Linux-based system (Endless OS). After the latest automatic update, the browser interface language switched from English to Portuguese. Since then, I’ve noticed a rendering issue on ChatGPT and other text-heavy sites.
When auto-translation to Portuguese is enabled, any markdown-style bullet item ending with italicized text followed by a period (e.g. example.) displays an unwanted “.O.” at the end of the line.
Example
• Original markdown:- Exemplo três.
• Rendered output: - Exemplo três.O
This issue does not occur when:
The browser interface is in English.
Auto-translation is disabled for the site.
I’ve confirmed the bug is tied specifically to the auto-translation feature into Portuguese, not the site content or markup itself.
This rendering bug affects readability and formatting on many platforms that use markdown or rich text. Please investigate.
Let me know if you need system logs or further details.
- Exemplo três.

@aosilva Thank you for the detailed report, it’s very helpful. To better understand and investigate the issue, could you please let us know the specific websites where you're seeing this rendering problem, in addition to ChatGPT? This will help us determine whether the issue is isolated or affecting multiple platforms in a similar way.
