Drag'n'drop URL to desktop not available

  • Hi,
I'm quite frustrated by the impossibility to drag and drop any URL to a local folder/desktop. I used it every minute with my former browser (by dragging the icon on the left of the url). I need it much to store websites and pictures and notes altogether in LOCAL folders.
Could you please explain how to get the facility back?
    Thanks in advance

  • That is not a feature in the current version of Opera. Vivaldi, Chrome and Internet Explorer support it though. I can't test Firefox as I don't have it on my system. The devs don't have a future features list posted anywhere that I know of so I can't say if or when it will be added. I can only assume that it will eventually be added since so many other browsers support it.

  • Thanks...
I remember seeing it in a former version of Opera, and Firefox supports it too. I hope this feature will be added to the future dev, or solved by an addon (I've tested a lot, but none is able to save locally).
Still stuck to the copy - create a New Shortcut - paste procedure....

  • it's inconceivable how the developers could overlook such an important feature THAT WAS THERE IN PREVIOUS VERSIONS! it's a deal-breaker for most of us - just ludicrous!

It was not there in previous versions. Opera 12 and Opera 15+ are different programs.

    it's a deal-breaker for most of us

I highly doubt that as this is the only thread I have ever seen asking about the issue.

  • It is very stupid that opera doe's not have this feature...

  • We await your creating of an extension that adds this feature then.

  • Re: Url to desktop.
Click on "History" icon. In the window on right - click and drag the Opera icon to the desktop.

  • THANKS terifred for a useful answer. Not perfect solution but doable and much easier than copying and pasting URL into a windows "Create shortcut" dialogue box then typing in the name of the shortcut.

  • I had no problem dragging the url for your question to my desktop. Gives me a shortcut with a big Opera icon. Win 10, opera 38.
