Opera's default search engine continues to take me to Google.es, instead of google.com. I know a way to edit the search phrase so that it WILL take me to Google.com (as I have done in Opera 12.17. However O27 will not allow me to either edit THEIR default search engines, and yet will not allow me assign another search engine (which would also be Google) as default.

So how do I get around allowing Opera 27's default Google search engine to go where I want it to??

Opera currently locks the default search engines do to malware liking to overwrite them. They admit that the current solution is a bit of a kludge but improving other features are currently higher priority. No time line for the improvement has been announced as yet.

You can manually change it though. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Stable\version number here\resources and edit the default_partner_content.json file to what you want it to be. Then copy the file and save it somewhere. Each time Opera updates a new folder with that version number is created and used for such data. You will want to copy that file over to the new folder when it updates.

You're kidding me, that file when opened is pretty much unintelligible in terms of finding what I want to change. It's not arranged so that anyone can just find what they want in that 250+kbs, where do i start, the word google appears over and over and over.

          Any help appreciated.

Can't help you there. I deleted every entry but one so that I could reuse their letters for other search engines. Maybe look at which one uses the 'g' keyword.
