It means basically nothing for the end user. In fact you are probably already switched over and don't even know it.

So this is why some of us are having trouble with youtube.
I just disabled pepflashplayer32_16_0_0_280.dll and it's back to normal now.

Can someone please explain in layman's terms what this means for the end user?

Now when you want to install Flash to use in Opera you should get the Pepper/PPAPI edition to get the best experience.
In the future the support for the old edition (Netscape / NPAPI) will be cut in all Chromium-based browsers.

Do we still upgrade flash? Or will this be like Chrome, and be automatically upgraded by itself?

Opera won't include Flash, you still download it from Adobe and it updates automatically via its own Adobe updater.

Does this replace the flash program that we install from teh adobe site, or what?

It replaces itself. Now when you visit the Adobe website with Opera, Adobe will serve you the Pepper edition automatically instead of the Netscape one.

@metoodeep what do you see in the opera://plugins page? If you expand the details, is Flash's architecture appearing as PPAPI?

Don't worry that means it runs on a separate process to increase security.

                    1. It's enabled in opera://plugins right? Where do you receive that message saying Flash is outdated?
                    2. Check whether plug-ins are set to run automatically in Opera Settings - Websites in the sidebar.
                    3. Try disabling Opera Turbo from the main menu.

No. Live streams works only in MSE & H.264. Opera support MSE & H.264 only for Linux.

@pvassilev Opera 12.17 does not use Pepperflash plugin. Please install Flash NPAPI for Firefox from http://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer/otherversions/
