Opera One slow to load

For a while now, Opera has moved from being the fastest starting web browser to the slowest.

What is Opera doing now that it wasn't doing before, during the five seconds it takes from clicking the icon to displaying the simple Google.co.uk page I have set as my start page?

Every other browser I have loads that same page in between two and three seconds. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, AVG, Brave, Comodo and even Internet Explorer 11 all load google.co.uk from scratch in less than three seconds, most in around two seconds.

I have turned off the only three extensions I use which reduces the time from 5.5 to 5 seconds.

So again: What is Opera One doing between starting and displaying a simple web page that the other browsers apparently are not?

Note that I have also tried this on other computers (I'm an IT Pro) including the latest Windows 11 Pro, with similar results.

This is NOT including the long delay when Opera is updating itself and then spends valuable seconds self-promoting with its animated O splash screen.

I love Opera and have done for many years now, but having to suffer these delays very many times a day when I am trying to work is driving me away
