Losing files when using built-in WhatsApp

I was sent PDF files via WhatsApp. In the built-in WhatsApp for Opera, I clicked on the download icon. The files downloaded immediately (!), after which they became unavailable in WhatsApp (both on the computer and on the smartphone). Clicking on the file in the chat brings up the message "This document cannot be downloaded because it is no longer on your phone." Windows Search cannot find these files on the system drive. The files are also missing from the media folder on the smartphone. Be careful.

@Enamer What's the behaviour in a regular tab? And in other browsers?
